How To Build A Computer

How To Build A Computer

Author: Dave

Building a computer is a lot easier than most people conceive. In fact the hardest part is probably not what you think. Every time I start to piece together a new computer system, the most time is usually spent picking out the parts, the least, is usually putting it together.

So what does it take to build your own computer? I'll break it down into 4 steps. Most anyone that can use a computer can build one. The biggest question is not of ability, it's usually about patience. If you have some time you can focus on learning about the individual computer parts, you'll be able to build a computer.

Let's get started.
Step 1 - Pick out your parts. This sounds easy, but to get the best possible computer, take your time. You'll find computer parts that are not only reviewed well by computer users like you and me, you'll also find parts that are fast and that will stand the test of time. This is by far the most important part. If you do this well, the rest will all follow.

Step 2 - Assembly. Ironically, this is where most people believe the magic happens. This is probably the easiest thing you have done in a long time. If you've ever played with Legos or fixed anything around the house, you'll find this part the most enjoyable.

Step 3 - First Bootup. Now that the computer is all put together, we'll power on the computer for the first time and go through the necessary settings of getting your BIOS setup. If you don't know what that means, don't worry. The BIOS is simply something the motherboard uses to let it know how it can communicate with all the devices you just attached to it, so they can all work together.

Step 4 - Install an operating system. This is another place that I find believe to much takes place. The operating system can be installed without much user activity at all. Windows 7 is an especially easy install. You answer about 2 minutes worth of questions, it installs for about 30 to 40 minutes. You then answer another 3 minutes worth of questions, and that's it. You'll be at the desktop.

That's it, at this point your computer is ready to use, the way you know how to use it. Simply install the other software that you like to use, and customize it to make it your own.
