Malware is frustrating. The very term is indicative that it is not a good thing. The word Mal is French for bad. Some types of Malware include Trojans or other backdoor programs that will sneak in and run in the background.

So how do you keep your computer free of these annoying programs? You can find any number of online malware scanners, some free and some for cost. Basically, the scanner will go through your computer file by file looking for known malware. The scanning tool is something that can be updated, either automatically or manually. Once the tool has gone through your computer, it will list all the files that are malware and other suspicious programs. You go through the list, and then it will ask you what you want done with the files. You can quarantine or delete usually. Deleting the files is usually the best bet, just watch out for files you know are safe, and make sure they aren't checked.

Depending on your own computer usage will determine how often you should scan. Some programs allow you to set a scan at a certain time of the day or week, and you won't have to remember to do it. In any case, being aware of what is out there that can potentially cause damage is advantageous. As long as you pay attention, your computer should be alright.
