How Repairs Are Made On Closed Source Software and the Arguments for An Open Source Alternative

How Repairs Are Made On Closed Source Software and the Arguments for An Open Source Alternative

Author: Remy

Software developers and programmers are bound by convention and capitalism. Some of the software that they design isn’t free, so the patches and fixes that they provide are distributed in small executables that can’t be read by likeminded technophiles. This is unfortunate for a number of reasons. Firstly, the fact that the clever authors of these programs hide their source code from the public means that independent developers are prevented from providing ad hoc patches of their own. An independent software designer (and there are many out there) may have a glaringly obvious solution to a problem that the proprietors of the software have spent weeks scratching their heads over.

Patches of this kind can either modify or replace the offending binary files and efficiently complete the computer repair. But because the patches are exclusive to the software company that owns the software, the computer repair may come weeks or even months too late. If the process of creating and selling the software was more democratic, enabling other designers from outside the software company to work on computer repair, fixes could come quicker.

Sad Reflection

It’s an indictment on society that a software developer’s code has to be hidden in this way. But open-source code could be more easily stolen and manipulated and re-marketed as a brand new product by an exploitative designer. Bugs and glitches could be exploited too by nasty programmers hell-bent on wreaking havoc among the innocents. The wicked programmer can more easily recognize the security flaws in a piece of open source software and a patch may come too late from a designer with more altruistic motives. You could end up with a Trojan, a worm, a virus, or worse on your computer that neither an open-source nor a proprietary patch can fix. So, hidden code is secure code. The argument that obscurity means security should not be overlooked.

Opinions from Both Sides

Open-source programming advocates argue for free software that can be democratically developed, with the costs of development and any profits that accrue shared among the designers. This would enable computer repair to come from any software engineer who knows his apples from his oranges. Computer consulting, and more specifically software consulting, would be available from any qualified programmer, rather than those computer repair specialists employed exclusively by the software provider. The knowledge required to provide computer support and computer repair would no longer be quite so esoteric. Anyone with the right qualifications could provide computer support of this nature.

Some advocates of open-source development tend to view big corporations and their closed source programming as the epitome of nasty exploitation, greed, money-grabbing capitalism, and, in general, pure evil. The fans of closed-source proprietary software, meanwhile, regard the open-source community as a group of organic-yogurt-eating soy enthusiasts who are afraid to make money and fail to realize that there are people even worse than Microsoft who would be more than happy to bring down the whole Internet and every computer connected to it. So you can see that both communities have some pretty good arguments!

Tips And Advice For Buying Computer Parts

Tips And Advice For Buying Computer Parts

Author: Mark Grey

When you think of computer parts, and the need for computer parts, whether this be for a PC or a laptop you immediately think of repairs, however this is not the only time we require specific parts and components for our computer, they can also be used for an upgrade or simply as accessories to your existing PC or laptop to enhance it´s performance. With technology advancing at the pace it is today it would be difficult and expensive to stay up to date with the latest laptop on the market constantly, but having the option to purchase computer parts separately means that you can still have an up to date computer with the latest features, inside the old casing.

With this now being a very feasible option, and extremely cost effective method of upgrading you may be wondering if you have the qualifications or knowledge to fit these mentioned computer parts to your laptop or PC, but in my experience it is not a matter of qualifications, ok it benefits if you have some knowledge of computers and computer parts, but again not a compulsory measure. However the desire to learn a little about the inside of your computer is all it really takes, and if you get stuck there then many times you will have a friend or family member that holds the knowledge required to get your computer, or laptop up to date with your newly purchased computer parts.

With that said it can not be overlooked that, as we mentioned at the beginning of this article, computer parts are obviously used for repair. There was time when the only way to get your laptop or PC repaired was to send it off, or take it in to a computer parts specialist and leave the fate of it in there hands, this is now becoming a thing of the past and the ability and options to repair your own machine with the specialist computer parts you need, which can now be easily purchased over the internet with a guarantee of quality, and speed in which you receive the parts to get your computer or laptop up and running again.

And the last thing to mention, as we have briefly touched on is the accessories, computer parts take many shapes and forms, and finding a quality site or store to purchase your computer parts from will undoubtedly lead you to any accessory you may require for your machine, whether it be an internal accessory such as a new processor or external part such as a USB device, but knowing that this can all be found online is a comfort to anyone.

Having discussed the use of computer parts, and how we can benefit from buying them separately and not as part of a computer part specialist repair or upgrade package take a look at what www.LaptopAid.com has to offer â€" not only a dedicated service with great guarantees, but a wide range of computer parts for all makes and models.

Sell Tablet Notebook Computers Fast Online for Cash

Author: Tom Lasky

Going out and buying a computer is something that most people get very excited about. There are so many fun and interesting choices out there, it's hard not to enjoy the process. Far better than shopping for a new pair of jeans or sneakers, the average computer user would probably put off actually buying a computer as long as possible just to prolong the shopping stage if it weren't for the inconvenience of being without a computer in the meantime. Today, not many people take the time or go to the trouble to fix an old computer, because replacing the parts really don't increase the overall value of the machine. When all is taken into consideration, it just makes more sense to purchase a new computer at an economical price than fix an old machine that is already off the warranty. The big question then, is where will the extra funding come from to start from scratch and buy a new computer?

One great way to go about it is to simply get rid of your old computer. While it probably won't sell to another direct user, it may be possible to sell acer tablet notebook computers and other similar gadgets for cash. For those out there who like the new computers that turn, swivel and twist, there will always be a need for new and exciting electronics in their lives such as the acer tablet notebook. As a machine with moving parts, often some of these parts can break or fall into disrepair when you are using the computer. Keep in mind that this will have happened to others too, and they will be keen to get replacement parts. When you sell acer tablet notebook computers, even when damaged or broken, they can go to someone who actually is interested in fixing their machine rather than buying or selling. As such, you are passing on part of your computer to someone who can use it. The best part is that you get a cash reward for a job well done!

For those of us who are computer savvy ourselves, or at least know somebody who is, it can be easy to sell acer tablet notebook parts for cash. For the rest of us, a computer with a function that is either completely broken or damaged is as good as gone, and completely worthless. The trick, however, is to sell the computer on to someone who can find the value in it. When you sell acer tablet notebook computers using the internet in their entirety, someone else can check out the machine and diagnose exactly what needs fixing or replacing. Try taking the computer to a diagnostics store and you'll see exactly how much it costs to do it yourself when selling parts, and be glad to have someone who is willing to buy when you are ready to sell acer tablet notebook computers! For the very best way to make some bucks, recycle, put some money towards a new machine, and get old electronics junk off your hands, go online today and learn how to sell acer tablet notebook computers fast!

7 Tips For Preventing and Removing Viruses

7 Tips For Preventing and Removing Viruses

Author: Paul Barret

Computer viruses have been causing trouble for computer users for almost as long as the PC has been around. Computer viruses are a frustrating and costly problem for anyone who gets 'infected' by them. Some are simply are nuisance causing pop ups and making unauthorised changes to programs. Others can delete information on a computer causing many problems especially to to people in work environment.

A computer virus is a small piece of software that has been created with the intention of causing damage to your computer software and/or data, giving unauthorised access to your computer to someone thousands of miles away and can also be used to steal your private information such as banking details and passwords.
What do you do if you suspect your computer has been infected with a virus? Here are 7 tips to get you on the way.

1. Run anti-virus software

Generally the first step to take if you think you have a virus is to run a full system scan with your antivirus software. If you don't own anti-virus software Malwarebytes' Anti-malware and AVG Antivirus are two free options that work well. If you are considering buying anti-virus software its best not to skimp and buy the cheapest. Go with a well know program such as those buy Computer Associates, Trend Micro or Norton's are all good options.

2. Turn off your internet connection

Its important to know how to turn off your internet connection. As viruses can use your internet connection to send your private information to malicious website and computer hackers. Turning off your internet connection will allow you to run anti-virus software without the worry of having your information being spied upon or leaving your computer vulnerable to hackers.

3. Stop downloading

This simple step will ensure that no new viruses are downloaded while you're waiting for your computer to be repaired. You may have to wait a few days to grab those new tunes and the latest free programs but this is probably the best preventative step to take to ensure you don't make the problem worse.

4. Install updates

New viruses and malicious programs are popping up all the time. Anti-virus software needs to be updated regularly to ensure the software is ready to protect your computer from the latest threats. Some programs can be set to update automatically which is handy although is you suspect you have a virus it's a good idea to manually update your anti-virus software to ensure you have the latest updates.

5. Run in safe mode

Some viruses are quite complex programs and can be very difficult to fully remove. Some use sneaky tactics like disabling your anti-virus software making it very hard to remove them. If you find you can't run your anti-virus software try starting your computer in 'Safe Mode' By pressing F5 as soon as you turn your computer on or press F8 and select Safe mode from the Boot menu. Once in Safe Mode run your anti-virus software scan as usual. This is often a very effective way of removing stubborn viruses.

6. Try an online scanner

If you don't have anti-virus software or are having problems running your current software try using Trend Micro's House Call or something similar. This is a free online virus scanner that will detect any viruses lurking on your system. These are always updated to detect the latest and most recently created viruses.

7. Call a professional

If everything else fails it may be time to call for back up. Many computer service companies deal with virus removal on a daily basis. They often have access to more advanced diagnostic tools and are up to date with the latest news in fighting virus infections. What be an impossible situation to you can often be a quick fix for a professional computer technician.

Prevention is always the best cure. Stay away from suspect looking web sites, only download from web sites you trust and always scan everything you download before opening it.

Understanding SCSI

Understanding SCSI

Author: Tamara M.Harahsheh

Understanding SCSI
Tamara M.Harahsheh

SCSI,IDE,EIDE all describes the interface between the disk and the computer. The following is a brief description of SCSI.

Almost everyone with computer experience has heard of SCSI ,this describe a standard interface and command set for transferring data between devices on a computer bus.

Let's get more specific:
History

In 1981,SCSI was developed by "Shugart Association", which introduced Shugart Association System Interface (SASI)in conjunction with NCR corporation. In 1986, a modified version of SASI was ratified by American National Standard Institute (ANSI)as SCSI.

SCSI: What? Why?

SCSI (Pronounced "skuzzy"),which is acronym for Small Computer Systems Interface ,is a standard parallel interface between computers and peripheral devices such as hard drives ,scanners ,CD-ROM/RW drives ,tap drives ,printers…etc .
The technology allows you to connect various devices to your PC or PC server ,using SCSI card that fits inside your machine. SCSI bus is completely separated from the usual bus ,such as IDE,ISA,PCI.SCSI is completely independent from computer.
SCSI hard disks are very commonly found in RAID array, workstations, servers, and high-end peripherals while ,desktop computers and notebooks more typically use the ATA/IDE interface for hard disks.

Why we use SCSI? Quite simple, it is used because it speeds up the computer. Expandability ,flexibility ,performance, ease to use, and maturity are additional great reasons why SCSI has the popularity in computer marketplace. There are no set standard SCSI, originally SCSI-1,SCSI-2 which sometimes have a hard time talking to each other. Also, some companies have developed SCSI standards which may not be able to talk with other SCSI standard. All may bring problems to the system.

SCSI basics

1. SCSI can connect multiple devices to single SCSI adaptor on the computer bus.
2. SCSI is a parallel interface.
3. SCSI can operate in either synchronous or asynchronous modes.
4. There must be at least one target and one initiator on the SCSI bus.
5. SCSI can support up to 25 meters of cable.

SCSI System Components

The basic component in the SCSI system :

1. controller" Host Adapter": It serves as the interface between all the other devices on SCSI bus and computer.
2. Device.
3. Cable.
4. BIOS: on the controller is the SCSI BIOS ,that is a small ROM or flash memory chip that contains the software needed to gain access the control devices on SCSI.

SCSI Termination

SCSI buses must be terminated in both ends. There are four ways to terminate:
1. Internal.
2. External.
3. Passive.
4. Active.

Terms In SCSI System

1. Embedded SCSI Derives: That is a device with an adapter built in. This adapter allows the device to interface and communicate with the SCSI bus.
2. Identifier(ID):The ID ranges from 0-7 in SCSI system that supports eight devices. and ranges from 0-15 for 16 devices support.
3. SCSI Configured Automatically (SCAM):The auto-selection capability in most plug and play SCSI cards.

PC Computer Repair Amateurs Taking the Simple Way Out - The Destroy and Reimage Fix

PC Computer Repair Amateurs Taking the Simple Way Out - The Destroy and Reimage Fix

Author: Bill Arnoldi

This tactic in the Computer repair sector ranks close near the top of my frustration list of patterns by numerous PC Computer repair "Gurus". I am referring to the pattern of a few unprofessional PC Computer repair technicians, and even some big company franchises, taking the easy way out to fix a Computer by informing the client that they have no alternative but to replace the hard drive and Reimage everything.

Hi, I am Bill Arnoldi, proprietor of FireBall Tech PC Repair in Tucson, Arizona. In my mind, I am still seeking to ascertain how a "skilled" tech can call wiping and reimaging a "fix" for any Desktop Computer repair trouble. On my list of remediations, that is my last resort. More Often Than Not it kind of leaves me feeling a bit thwarted. But, as I seldom have to ever do that, I think only three or four times in the last eighteen years, it is not a huge matter for me.

So why do numerous computer repair technicians find it so simple to end up demolishing the customer's data and formating their hard drive as a solution to a PC Computer repair problem? Here are a couple of of the reasons.

1. They in truth do not know how to repair the problem. This is the number one reason. Most of the time this is the method most frequently practiced by "Gurus" that have minimal skill in really troubleshooting and repairing Computers, you acknowledge who they are. Its the individual, oftentimes hardly out of high school, that grew up playing with PC computers and built their own gaming system so he guesses they are an expert at fixing desktop computers, or the person that home studied the certification books and went forward to get a credential because they answered all the questions correct on a piece of paper. Any way it goes, they just don't have the skill and this is their sole solution to a somewhat challenging issue. What is even worse is they are taking advantage of the client that is relying on their "expert" decision that this is the SINGLE remedy to their issue, frequently leaving the customer with a feeling of regret for not having backed up all their data, written documents and movies and losing them because of the Reimage.

2. Volume equals more profits. It takes longer to troubleshoot and attempt repair paths on a PC Computer with complicated problems. Often a client is searching for the best cost for the PC Computer fix. In order to remain competitive and preserve a bulk of business, a PC repair company may resort to the format and restore of a PC because it requires significantly less time than actually resolving the problem. Thus, they can make more money by engaging the speediest route to getting the PC Computer up and running again. Again this is not ordinarily in the client's best interest because they end up by and large losing their information and needing to Re-image all of their software applications on their own.

3. Laziness. This incorporates a fragment of both of the preceding plus a poor attitude, but is really self-explanatory. The PC technician or the company philosophy is to take the easy way out, head off potential ramifications, get the Computer out the door fixed, and do so with the smallest amount of effort, time and expense. It is a "repair mill" mentality. In general, they just don't worry about the customer. Rather, it is all about whatsoever is easiest and most profitable. Again, the consumer becomes an blameless victim of amateurish business attitudes and patterns.

A comment response by a self-declared PC Computer repair guru on a forum posting by some other newbie technician asking "What's a good turnaround time on PC Computer fix for clients?" read the following: "It really counts on patronage, If you want to do this in a full time extent, you should be able to do this in about 8 to 12 hours. If you just reimage the PC it shouldn't take more than 2 hours." I guess we know how he operates.

A true computer repair tech can conclude virtually any problem without resorting to formatting a hard drive and reimaging the OS, also referred to as reimaging a PC. A PC repair tech with a genuine concern for the consumer's best interest will use everything in their arsenal to fix a problem before resorting to a total reimaging of a PC Computer system.

In my own Tucson PC repair, I can site a lot of cases wherein a client brought a PC to me because they were told by some other PC repair person that it was essential to reimage the customer's PC Computer resulting in absolute loss of their information, only to ascertain that indeed, it could be restored without any loss. Yes, sometimes it costs more than than reimaging a system as a result of the extended repair processes, but the client more often than not would preferably pay a bit more than lose all their data, and all too frequently, their treasured libraries of family memories on the Desktop Computer in digital pictures.

My suggestion to consumers is to ask around and discover the reputation of the Computer repair tech. Don't be unwary and easily accept a PC repair technician's statement that a total wipe and Re-image of the hard drive is required. Drill them on the causes why it is inevitable, and what the choices are. At the very least, always tell a PC repair person or company that they should contact you for authorization prior to formatting your hard drive and reinstalling your PC. Be conscious as well, that numerous of the large franchise operations use a business model wherein a series of mandated nominal troubleshooting gradations are taken on before the company policy dictates a total Reimage of the Desktop Computer is required for problem resolution.

Save More Money by Selling Your Old Laptop

Save More Money by Selling Your Old Laptop

Author: Tom Lasky

Sometimes, old computer equipment just stops working.  The owners of that equipment are left wondering what they should do with it, because a computer is so large and expensive, that it isn´t something you just throw away and replace like other items.  People´s first reaction is generally to try to have their computer repaired, but often that can cost more than a computer is worth.  Computer repair people are paid highly, and replacement parts can be pricey as well.  Even if you pay to have an old computer repaired, there´s no guarantee that it will keep working much longer.  In these cases, the best decision you can make is to see the acer laptop that you own.

If you decide to sell the acer laptop in your home, there are many ways you can benefit from your decision.  The first great thing about that choice, is that you won´t have spent a lot of money investing labor and new parts into an old machine that will probably fail in a few years anyway.  Computer technology evolves rapidly, so trying to keep old machines running will usually cost you more than simply buying a newer computer.  Yet, when you put a lot of money into buying a computer in the first place, you don´t want all of that money to just go to waste.  It doesn´t have to though, if you sell the acer laptop that you own, because there may be a repair or resell service that will be happy to take your old equipment off of your hands for a reasonable price.

Many people think that when their old computers stop working, the best thing they can do with them is to recycle them.  That is a good option, which is better than choosing to throw a computer away, but selling a computer is still a better option for both the owner and the environment.  Sometimes, people have to pay a large amount of money if they decide to recycle a computer because it´s not that easy to recycle equipment like that and it takes a lot of resources.  So once you´ve done all the difficult work or researching and finding a place that will actually accept a computer and allow you to recycle it, then you´ve got to pay a hefty fee on top of that.  Alternatively, if you sell an acer laptop, you will will actually get money for doing that.  You´ll also help keep all of the computer equipment that you sell out of the resource-intensive recycling process.  Making your old laptop reusable, is the most environmentally friendly way you can get rid of it.

If you choose to sell the acer laptop you own that no longer works, or that you simply no longer want, that is the most beneficial way for you to dispose of it.  That´s because you probably don´t have the skills or resources to repair it yourself, but someone else does.  It´s usually way to expensive to hire someone to fix your old computer, but if you sell it to a company that specializes in that, then you actually get money back instead of spending a lot on repairs that may not be worth it.

Looking to sell your old laptop? www.CashforLaptops.com offers the best prices on the Internet for your used equipment.

Computers and Reading: Using Computers to Teach Children to Learn to Read

Computers and Reading: Using Computers to Teach Children to Learn to Read

Author: Michael

During the past 20-30 years, computers became omnipresent within most traditional school classrooms. Yet, even as school districts dedicated an increasing amount of their technology resources to installing classroom computers, educators were often at a loss about how to use this new technology to teach. Teachers already had books, visual aids, and tactile materials specially designed to teach students all they needed to know about just about everything. Of what use was this new computer-based technology that promised to help teach an enlarging curriculum to kids who already had everything they needed to learn?

The reality is that computers have opened a whole new world to students, both at home and in the classroom. When the personal computer was merely a word-processing gadget, there were scattered opportunities to teach students limited reading and writing skills, but no real offering of any exciting new ways to teach subjects including social studies, science, and, above all, reading.

With the explosion of the personal computer into an advanced world of enhanced graphics and increasingly complex programs, the computer became more than a black screen with white words and a blinking cursor. Computers became truely interactive tools that enabled educators to stimulate their students' imaginations. And, as computer software developers forayed into more than word processing and financial programs, games turned into age-specific programs, and age-specific programs morphed into educational opportunities.

One complaint voiced by many parents as computer software matured from adaptations of video game into real educational offerings, was that their children were spending excessive time in front of the computer. After all, there is little to smile about when a child trades his Nintendo for computer pinball or her Atari for a Barbie creativity program. But, most experts agree that computer software developers really stepped up to the plate when designing programs that not only presented children with real learning opportunities, but that appealed to a wide variety of interests at the same time. Now, many parents are actually pleased when their children want to use the computer.

Computer Software that Can Teach Children to Learn to Read

Relatively early on in the learning software game, developers worked to present learners with basic computer programs that focused heavily on A,B,C's and 1,2,3's. Early programs presented even preschool learners with simple reading programs based on traditional reading materials such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Cinderella, and the Dr. Seuss books. Subsequent programs could focus on specific reading skills.

Today's computer software programs incorporate reading into a variety of learning media and subject area content. Just as educators have traditionally used different subject areas to help teach reading and vice versa, computer software has grown to the point where programs present children of all ages with multi-pronged combinations of reading activities across subject areas in order to facilitate and enhance learning. Just as computer games began to adapt play to the users' skill level some years ago, so too do sophisticated modern reading programs adjust to the needs and capabilities of the individual student. These new "learning" programs are so engrossing that students often tend to view them as "games." Now, even well-thought out computer games can be excellent ancillary learning opportunities for both moderate and advanced readers.

Careful software purchasing decisions by parents, along with flexibly allocating computer time devoted to instruction vs entertainment can help sustain their children's interest and enthusiasm for both kinds of program at a high level.

How Remove Spyware Removal Guide for Increased Computer Security

Author: Andrew Bicknell

Spyware is a type of software that gets installed on your computer that collects information about you and your computer habits and sends this information back to its masters. The most malicious of these programs will actually steal important personal information like passwords, credit card numbers, financial information, and anything else that may be stored on your computer. If this sounds scary and you want to do something about it it is time to learn the ins and outs of how remove spyware.

The first thing you need to do before you remove spyware removal is determine if you indeed have some form of this malware on your PC. There are several ways of doing this.

• The first is to use your built in Windows Task Manager to see if there are any unfamiliar programs running on your computer. To access this feature pres CTRL-ALT-DEL at the same time and click the Task Manager Button. Check under the processes tab to see what programs are currently running. This can be effective if you are computer savvy and know what you are looking at.
• You should also check your startup list to see which programs are running at the time of a reboot. Click Start-Run and type msconfig and click OK. This will list out all running programs, some of which may be spyware.
• The best way to determine if you have a spyware infection is to use a dedicated spyware removal tool or program to scan and remove any malware from your system.

Removal of spyware is an important part of any computer security program. We all know that virus protection is important but spyware and adware should be considered just as dangerous. Network Security 101

Network Security 101

Author: Robert Flanglin

As more people are logging onto the Internet everyday, Network Security becomes a larger issue. In the United States, identity theft and computer fraud are among the fastest rising crimes. It is important to protect your network and ensure the safety of all computers and users in that network.

What is a Network?

In order to fully understand network security, one must first understand what exactly a network is. A network is a group of computers that are connected. Computers can be connected in a variety of ways. Some of these ways include a USB port, phone line connection, Ethernet connection, or a wireless connection. The Internet is basically a network of networks. An Internet Service Provider (ISP) is also a network. When a computer connects to the internet, it joins the ISP's network which is joined with a variety of other networks, which are joined with even more networks, and so on. These networks all encompass the Internet. The vast amount of computers on the Internet, and the number of ISPs and large networks makes network security a must.

Common Network Security Breeches

Hackers often try to hack into vulnerable networks. Hackers use a variety of different attacks to cripple a network. Whether you have a home network or a LAN, it is important to know how hackers will attack a network.

One common way for a hacker to wreak havoc is to achieve access to things that ordinary users shouldn't have access to. In any network, administrators have the ability to make certain parts of the network "unauthorized access." If a hacker is able to gain access to a protected area of the network, he or she can possibly affect all of the computers on the network. Some hackers attempt to break into certain networks and release viruses that affect all of the computers in the network. Some hackers can also view information that they are not supposed to see.

Destructive Attacks

There are two major categories for destructive attacks to a network. Data Diddling is the first attack. It usually is not immediately apparent that something is wrong with your computer when it has been subjected to a data diddler. Data diddlers will generally change numbers or files slightly, and the damage becomes apparent much later. Once a problem is discovered, it can be very difficult to trust any of your previous data because the culprit could have potentially fooled with many different documents.

The second type of data destruction is outright deletion. Some hackers will simply hack into a computer and delete essential files. This inevitably causes major problems for any business and can even lead to a computer being deemed useless. Hackers can rip operating systems apart and cause terrible problems to a network or a computer.

The Importance of Network Security

Knowing how destructive hackers can be shows you the importance of Network Security. Most networks have firewalls enabled that block hackers and viruses. Having anti-virus software on all computers in a network is a must. In a network, all of the computers are connected, so that if one computer gets a virus, all of the other computers can be adversely affected by this same virus. Any network administrator should have all of the essential files on back up disks. If a file is deleted by a hacker, but you have it on back up, then there is no issue. When files are lost forever, major problems ensue. Network security is an important thing for a business, or a home. Hackers try to make people's lives difficult, but if you are ready for them, your network will be safe.

Robert Flanglin is very interested in computer security and anti-virus software. Robert Flanglin enjoys writing about Network Security.

The Benefits of doing a Macbook Memory Upgrade

The Benefits of doing a Macbook Memory Upgrade

Author: James

At one time it wasn't unusual to upgrade memory and other computer components. However, during the 1990's and the early 2000's, the cost of buying a new computer became so inexpensive that the conventional wisdom was changed to buying an entire ne computer as opposed to upgrading memory and other computer components.

But, with the current economic situation, it is hard for most consumers to justify buying a new computer. Therefore, the upgrade of memory and other computer components has once become the best way to get the most for the consumer's money. These are some of the most cost effective and common upgrades to your Macbook computer that most consumers can do in their own at home.

Probably the best computer upgrade that will provide a significant improvement in the responsiveness and overall speed of your Macbook computer is a memory upgrade. Most brand name computers companies ship their computers with what is called shared memory, meaning that the computer uses the RAM memory to both render the graphic images that are sent out to the computer's monitor and to process instructions.

Therefore, the amount of gigabytes of memory that the computer is shipped with is not completely available for the processor to use. With games and other heavily graphics intensive applications this shared memory configuration will frequently result in poor performance.

Click here for more information about macbook repair and Macbook battery replacement.

This problem can be significantly reduced by adding additional memory and doing so is an easy process that most consumers can do on by themselves easily. There are any numbers of websites that the consumer can search for the type of memory that will work with a Macbook computer. For those people who don't think that they have the technical expertise and are afraid to open the case of their Macbook computer and install the additional memory themselves most computer repair shops will now provide installation assistance, although it is somewhat expensive. It only takes a consumer somewhere around 5 minutes to install new RAM in their Macbook computer.

Another way to free up the Macbook computer's shared memory is to install a dedicated graphics card. This allows the motherboard to do the intense graphics processing and is simply a card that slips into an empty slot. In most cases, the addition of a dedicated graphics card will provide a significant amount of performance improvement although it is considerably more expensive that a memory upgrade.

Television PC - How To Create A DIY Super Computer Internet TV System In Little Time As Possible!

Television PC - How To Create A DIY Super Computer Internet TV System In Little Time As Possible!

Author: byron1955

The Internet created a video media phenomenon that made a global impression a while back. Now it's on course to becoming a TV phenomenon as more people across the globe are changing TV viewing habits. Many use search terms like "television pc" to find what they are looking for that may relate to hardware, software, and video connectors, or simply want information that teaches how to watch free sports, movies, TV episodes, adult TV and other entertainment on their computers

Honestly speaking, with all the different types of media hardware, software and video/audio cable connectors, including 100s of media websites, reviews, and other related info. online, who can possibly absorb everything when trying to figure out how and where to start.

3 Ways to Getting a Television PC System:

1. Use hardware that utilizes the Internet to watch Satellite/Cable TV channels coming from home to a PC located anywhere in the World. (Can cost in the $100s and requires some tech know-how)

2. Buy a multimedia Television PC that allows watching TV channels, videos and listening to radio stations and music. (Can cost several $100 or $1000s)

3. Download and install television PC software (or whatever name implied) to help deliver 1000s of free premium, HDTV and on-demand channels, including other entertainment on any computer. (Can cost as high as $100 and as low as $8)

By far, the easiest and fastest way to creating a super television PC system when using a desktop or laptop is through software. If you are one of many who likes DIY (do-it-yourself) methods, then this would be the best way to go. Keep in mind, choosing a top software package that delivers on its promise and provides the next best thing to paid TV on a PC brings more enjoyment.

Downloading/installing a top leading television PC software to a PC that offers a complete package has more value and perks than free software (TV player). Newbies can lower the learning curve as well as save time and effort combing the Internet in search of their favorite channels and entertainment.

That said, whether or not paid TV is in the home, a television PC package can make a World of difference as it can streamline, organize, and deliver 1000s of free channels to you. Creating a super computer Internet TV system comes easy as everything is already provided. In fact, newbies can watch whatever they like when using a desktop or laptop with an Internet broadband connection, or on their TV sets.

Using Internet TV software doesn't mean it delivers premium paid Satellite and Cable channels to a computer. Instead, it helps deliver the next best thing to paid TV. That said, the software is legal, safe, and risk-free to download for a small one-time fee.

Since the Internet is where the best entertainment is located, just making a simple TV to PC connection using a video/audio cable connector may not be as entertaining. Imagine having the best of both Worlds--keeping your Satellite/Cable subscription and downloading Internet TV to a computer with access to 1000s of free channels across the globe. Or without a television set.

Young people are not the only ones watching Internet TV on their computers. People ages 35 and over, and in their 80s have some type of television PC system in place. It's not too surprising that some consumers have either cut or downsized their Satellite/Cable TV subscriptions. Furthermore, this change of media viewership didn't have much to do with high cost. Instead it had more to do with getting more choices.

When using software, you can create a do-it-yourself television PC system within a few minutes or mobile TV using a laptop. This allows watching everything from any location at home, work, college, on a trip, etc.

So even if you consider yourself to be a televisionPC4idiots kind of person, software can help put you one step ahead the smarts guys who can put in the time and effort only to find some of the great entertainment online rather than all of it.

How To Use Your New Portable Hard Drive

How To Use Your New Portable Hard Drive

Author: jhedgecoth

A portable hard drive is relatively easy to install and use. Just plug it in and away you go! At least that’s what they told you at the store. It’s so simple that apparently you don’t even need directions. This must be the reason why they didn’t include any in the box. Now that you’ve got it home, just what exactly are you supposed to do with this thing?

Begin by Plugging in Your Portable Hard Drive

Your portable hard drive, also known as a USB drive, can be plugged into any of the USB ports on your computer. The little wire with the rectangle at the end of it is called a USB cable. It will only fit into a USB port. USB ports can be located on the front, side, and back of your computer. Manufacturers suggest that you use a USB port located on the back of your computer, and avoid plugging the portable hard drive into a USB hub. This practice ensures that you are using the best connection available, and cuts down on possible interference, but can oftentimes be rather inconvenient.

The rule of thumb is this: Plug your USB drive into any slot that it fits into. If the drive appears to be running slowly or doesn’t show up on your computer, then try moving it to a slot on the back of your computer.

Now What?

After you’ve plugged your portable hard drive into your computer, two things will generally happen, indicating that it has been correctly plugged in. Your computer will make a beeping sound and a dialog box will appear in the lower right hand corner of your screen telling you that your computer has found new hardware.

The first time you plug your USB drive into your computer, wait a couple of minutes to let it install any drivers necessary before continuing. It will do this automatically. Once the drivers are installed, double-click your “My Computer icon. Your portable hard drive will appear as a new drive letter. If it doesn’t show up in My Computer, try plugging it into the back of your computer. If it still doesn’t show up, you may need to partition and format your drive.

And Away You Go!

The most common uses for your portable hard drive are to either transport or make backups of your documents. These uses do not require that you install any special software. You can copy your files to it just as if it were your local hard drive. You can drag and drop your documents right onto the new drive letter listed in My Computer. You can save and edit your documents directly to your USB drive from your programs and applications. Then, you can bring them with you to other locations or store them in a safe place in case your computer crashes.

Removing Your Portable Hard Drive

Never remove your USB drive from your computer while you are copying files to it. This can corrupt your data and cause you to lose your files. The safest way to remove it is to click on the “Safely Remove Hardware icon in the lower right hand corner of your taskbar.

Thus, to help such people computer loans for bad credit has been introduced in today’s financial market which helps people to get a computer of their own choice.

Computer loans for bad credit are the personal loans which are basically of two types, namely secured and unsecured. In the secured case, the borrower is required to pledge any of his valuable assets like any property, any real estate or any building as security against the loan and this security ultimately benefits the borrower with lower interest rates and larger loan amount. But, in the case of unsecured loans, the borrower is not required to place any of his valuable assets like any real estate, any other property etc. as security against the loan. Since the lender is completely at risk in this case if the borrower fails to repay the entire loan amount by the time, therefore to recover his risk to some extent he imposes slightly higher rate of interest on the loan. How To Buy A Computer

How To Buy A Computer

Author: Owen Jones

As with everything else, purchasing a computer is easy if you know what you are doing. For those who do not know though, it can be a complete nightmare. People who have used a computer before have a good idea about what they require and what they would like, but for those who have never used a computer before, all the components that make up a computer can appear confusing.

The clear answer is to buy the best that you can manage, but this still might puzzle some people, because the best is not always the most expensive. In the computer world, 'the best' usually means the biggest and the fastest.

Just to make it more confusing, 'the biggest' here does not always mean in size, but in capacity. The only large size that is important is the monitor. This is a quick rundown of how to buy a computer and its components:

Before you buy a computer, think about why you want one. If it is for educational reasons: that is surfing the web and looking up content, you do not need more than a basic desktop computer. If you are constantly on the move, then you might need a laptop, or maybe cyber cafes will meet your requirements.

This kind of machine is also sufficient for writing letters and emails and almost any type office work. Top flight computers are only required by games players and exhibitionists.

Buy a complete computer. That means buying a kit of: CPU (the 'computer'), monitor (screen), keyboard, mouse, speakers and printer. This way you will just have to plug everything in and off you go - you can be sure that they are all compatible.

When you purchase your next computer, you can buy all the components individually to get even better value for money or a system more precisely tailored to your preferences.

Go for the largest screen, the fastest memory and fastest hard drive and the biggest memory (RAM) and biggest hard drive (gigabytes) that you can afford. You do not have to have a lot of 'space' for normal office work or normal surfing, but if you get into downloading music or films, then memory soon gets eaten up, although you could always add a new external (plug-in) hard drive later, in need be.

Make sure that you purchase a computer that is not too old, if you go second-hand. This is because you can up-grade computers for two or three years, but after that manufacturers change the casings and new components will no longer fit - planned obsolescence, it is called.

Get your computer from a well-known, trustworthy local store and ensure that it has a good guarantee. Computers do not often go amiss, but you do not want to have to send it half-way across the country and wait three weeks for it to come back. If you are in business, get two. Maybe a laptop and a desktop and synchronize the contents of both so that you always have your data.

Following these guidelines will ensure that the computer novice gets 'enough' of a deal and an adequate machine that is fit for purpose without paying through the nose.
