Build Your Own Computer - Get a Better Computer and Save Money!

By: Nicholas Doran

Did you know you can build a better computer than the ones for sale at the electronics store? Computers are expensive, but you can save a couple hundred dollars by building one yourself. Not only will you save money - you will also end up with a better computer!

If people knew how simple it is to build a great computer then many more people would do it.

There are several reasons for building your own computer.

1. Quality of the Components. Computers from the store contain cheap, generic components that will break down and are difficult to repair or upgrade later. This is even true for the famous brands. When you build your own computer you will use high-quality name brand parts to ensure your new computer is reliable and fast.

2. No Junk Software. Store-bought computers come pre-installed with lots of junk software and advertising that interferes with the smooth operation of the computer. Remember when you bought your last computer from the store? You fired it up only to be hit by a dozen pop-up advertisements trying to get you to pay out extra money for software you didn't want? You won't have this problem when you build the computer yourself. You will install only the programs you really want - no junk software slowing things down.

3. A Useful New Skill.  You will obtain the knowledge you need to upgrade and repair computers. Next time one of your family's computers stops working you will know how to fix it. You won't have to spend money hiring someone to fix it for you.

4. Make Your Mother Proud. You will be proud that you built your own cutting-edge, high-tech, top-quality PC. Your friends will be impressed that you built a computer that is faster and more powerful than the famous-brand computers they paid big bucks for.

5. Customization. Your self-made computer will have precisely the components you want. You can customize your computer to excel at the specific tasks you perform every day.

6. Play Games Better. Want to play the latest high-tech action games? Just put in a cutting-edge video card. The computers you buy at the store are not very good for playing games. Those computers are intended for casual computer users performing generic home office and homework tasks. Compared to your home-built machine, store-bought computers have very poor graphics performance .

There are only three simple steps required to build a computer.

1. Order the parts. There are only about a dozen components required. You will need a case, power supply unit, disk drives, memory, video card, monitor, keyboard and mouse. The parts you buy will vary based on your budget. If you are replacing your old computer you might be able to reuse some of its parts in your new computer to save cash.

2. Assemble the parts. This is the easy part. If you have ever assembled a piece of furniture you can assemble a computer. All the pieces fit neatly into the case. It only takes an hour or so.

3. Install the software. You will need to install an operating system and transfer your favorite programs onto your new hard drive. This step will be a familiar experience because we have all installed many programs on our computers over the years.

After you get everything installed and working properly you will be ready to play games, surf the Internet,  track your finances, organize your digital photos or do your homework. But now you will do it faster plus have some extra cash in your pocket compared to buying an over-priced computer at the store.

Is Cloud Computing anything new?

By: Gary Klingsheim

Cloud Computing is a buzz word that has recently taken the web hosting industry by storm, but is Cloud Computing really anything new? The basic concept of Cloud Computing is to remove the burden of heavy processing and memory consumption from the client or end user systems and take care of the heavy tasks "in the cloud" using a very dynamic cluster server. Dynamic meaning that the cluster server may be comprised of dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of machines. A downed machine can simply be removed and replaced without affecting the daily operations and file storage of the cloud. The method by which this is achieved is certainly new. The concept however is a return to the days of old before the PC revolution came into full swing.

Throughout the 70's and 80's computers were more often quite large centralized machines. This is in a time when super computers did most of the work. These super computers were monstrous and a single computer would easily fill an entire room. More often than not employees who did work on computers would use low end systems or "dumb terminals" that had little number crunching power of their own. These dumb terminals would simply provide an interface to the computing monstrosity in the next room. This was a necessity at the time since the more powerful desktop computers of the day often lacked the resources to handle the tasks necessary in daily work. These super computers or "mainframes" housed the expensive large quantities of memory, hard disks and processing power. This allowed businesses to minimize costs by purchasing dumb terminals at a fraction of the cost of the more capable workstations and still get the job done.

Of course technology improved and the PC revolution swept into our homes, schools, offices, and into our daily lives. Research into computational technology, memory and storage devices improved and miniaturized computers exponentially year after year after year. It become more expensive to maintain the "big iron" than it was to create large numbers of significantly powerful workstations or home and office PC's. As it became more expensive to maintain fridge sized 16 and 32 processor mainframes (sometimes more) experts tried to build a cheaper solution consisting of networked home computers working together on the same tasks. These home built multi-computer systems became known as cluster servers. At this point in time most work anyone needed done could be handled by their rather industrious home PC's. However as these fields became more advanced there was again that requirement for an outside super computer to take the reigns of the processing. Thankfully cluster servers were ready to step up to the plate.

Anyone with enough skill could build their own cluster server in their home with enough old computers laying around. Home computers had become powerful enough that when clustered, several moderately powerful computers could pull together more CPU power than a mainframe costing many times more to produce. Cluster servers soon held record breaking computational power and began to break documented records from the latest expensive single machine super computers. Clusters had the advantage of being easily expandable simply by adding another PC to the network that was set up to become a node in the cluster. This would soon revolutionize data centers around the world. Cluster servers became widely used in "render farms" for 3D animation or for studying mathematics, physics, cryptography and began taking on tasks too back breaking for even the most powerful home PC's.

With the recent recession many people are thinking twice before spending a few thousand dollars on a machine that will be outdated within the year. Many settle for lesser computers for under a thousand dollars. These machines don't pack the punch needed for high end gaming or productivity but they'll do fine for school and office work most of the time. On top of that we're seeing new initiatives for cheaper computers particularly with ambitions to create "the hundred dollar laptop" and to put a laptop in the hands of every child on the planet so that all have the ability to learn and be part of the digital age. To create these cheaper computers we're coming full circle back to a time when the expense and power of individual machines can't be justified among the masses. These cheap computers would ultimately be impractical for all but the simplest tasks but thanks to the concept of Cloud Computing they are quickly becoming a reality.

These new machines bare some resemblance to the idea of old dumb terminals. In some ways Cloud Computing is just todays buzz word for a "mainframe" except that Cloud Computing is across multiple machines in any number of locations whereas an old mainframe is a single mega-machine. For example an old mainframe existed in one location and you would never think of relocating it. The mainframes could only scale in terms of power and processing as much as their motherboards had room for. With Cloud Computing the cluster can scale in theory to any number of machines. Those machines don't even have to be in the same room or the same country. A modern version of a mainframe might consist of hundreds or thousands of individual computers networked together and they may be working together from several different locations across the globe. If one data center goes out the Cloud keeps running minus a few horsepower.

Cloud Computing may not be as new an idea as the industry would have us believe, but it does provide some innovations and open some doors that old mainframes never could. Cloud Computing is only going to grow as many businesses try to find their niche and revenue by providing cloud hosting or cloud based applications. Google remains on the forefront of this with their constantly innovative suite of on line tools including Gmail, Google docs, and many more. One of Googles biggest Cloud Computing ambitions however is to bring Africa and the 3rd world into the information age.

All you will need is a cell phone, or a PDA, or a cheap netbook with an Internet connection. The cloud will take care of the heavy processing while the tools and storage will exist on line removing the requirement for the masses to own expensive hardware of their own.

While some may find reason to hang on to their expensive PC's, in the future many more casual computer users and light weight users will find that Cloud Computing fulfills their needs while leaving their desk space free. Even those with high end machines may need to run applications in the cloud sometimes. In some cases the demands of an application are too high for their home computers. Or it may be since Cloud Computing is making it faster and simpler to share data with others as one can with Google Docs. Regardless it is apparent that the Cloud Computing revolution is here to stay and could one day be known as the revolution that put the 3rd world on line.

Types of Computer Networks - LAN WAN MAN and Area Networks

By: Giri - Austin Whitten

A computer network is the practice of linking two or more computing devices together for the purpose of sharing data. Networks are built with a mix of computer hardware and computer software. This interconnected system will share services and interact through a communications link.

A computer network is very helpful in a business. Most of the time a business will have more than one computer set up and it often very beneficial to network all of the computers in the office. A local area network (LAN) will connect your company's computers. This will allow them to share and exchange different types of information. If you haven't considered networking your office computers, listen to these reasons.

There are several types of computer networks. A computer network can be very simple, such as only connecting two computers or a computer and a printer, or it can be very complex, connecting millions of computers and devices. Here is a list of different computer network types.

The smallest type of network is a Personal Area Network (PAN). This type of computer network connects a computer to a number of devices. These devices may include, but are not limited to, printers, PDAs, and telephones. Usually these are located very close to a computer. A Local Area Network (LAN) is used to network a small geographical area. An example of this type of computer network is a home network with two or more computers or computers that are connected in a workplace. A version of a LAN is a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN).

A Campus Area Network (CAN) is ideal for a university but they are also found in industrial facilities. This type of computer network connects computers in a number of buildings. This is generally accomplished through bridging and routing. A Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) consists of any number of interconnected LANs and WANs but it will not extend certain boundaries, such as those of a town, city, or metropolitan area. Many of these are operated at public utilities and are used by businesses and individuals in the area.

A Wide Area Network (WAN) is a step up from a MAN. This type of computer network can cross metropolitan or even national boundaries. The best known WAN is the Internet. This computer network uses routers and public communication links to carry data. Many WANs are run by private companies and restricted, unlike the Internet. Although these are the MAN types of network that most users come across there are other computer networks ranging from as small as a Desktop Area Network (DAN) to a very large Global Area Network (GAN).

Computer Crashes-How to Fix a Computer Crash

By: Alex

Computer crashes is absolutly the first tough problem to millions of PC users. When you get this problem, everything comes to a halt and what you can do is just to reboot your computer reluctantly. Most of the time, computer crashes unexpectedly even though you were playing a small game, writting down your diary, or visiting a webpage. Such phenomenon predicts you that there is something wrong with your computer and it has to be fixed before it gives up completely. However, fixing the computer does not need to replace your computer with a new one. Your current computer likely just needs a little attention. To identify the reason for crashing seriously is a very necessary step before you take some action on it.

Here are some common reasons for crashes as below. You can find what is the specific factor that causes the computer crashing easily.

1. Computer Crashes caused by Hardware

*Poor Heat Dissipation* Monitor, Power and CPU will emit plenty of heat when in operation. If the generated heat is not dissipated in time, the normal operation will be adversely affected, which may result in decrease of operation speed or life expectancy. A common solution is to dispose a heat sink and a fan corresponding to a heat source. Computer will probably freezes because of the poor heat dissipation. If you use a laptop with a low quality cpu fan, you can purchase a USB fan to cool down the CPU temperature. Your computer will run more smoothly than before.

*PC is moved inappropriately* If your computer is moved to another place incautiously, some components in it would slap because of the violent vibration and results in the crashing. Therefore, I suggest you handle your PC with care.

*Dust Killer* Guess what? Too much dust in your computer will also cause computer crashes. Don't be lazy :) Cleaning the dust regularly is another effective maintenance method to avoid PC crashes.

*Unmatch Device* If the Motherboard frequency does not match with frequency of CPU, the computer would fail to keep running smoothly but just crashes continually.

*Incompatibility between hard/software* Some 3D Application Software and special software would probably have conflicts with the hardware of some computers.

*Memory Malfunction* Loose or low quality memory would cause computer crashes frequently. You need to check the memory and plug it into the mainboard again. If there is something wrong with the RAM, please try to clean the gold finger.

*Hard Drive Malfunction* Computer Crashes also could be caused by the aging of PC hard drive or the bad track of the HD. I advice you download or purchase some HD diagnose tools to detect and fix HD problems. If the hard drive is damaged seriously then you have to get a new one to replace it.

*CPU Overclocking* Overclocking of course will improve the CPU working frequency but meanwhile it also will bring unsteadiness to the computer. So get your CPU to the normal frequency right now.

*Conflicts from HD Resources* To remove the potential conflicts among PC devices, you can enter the "safe mode" and adjust some settings in the "Controle Panel"---"System"--"Devices Manage". To fix some errors caused by driver program, you can modify the registry with this instruction: Click "Start" menu---"Run"--Type in "regedit" and find out the relevant registry keys. Delete them. If you feel hard to do this, it is highly recommended that you download registry cleaning software to fix the invalid and wrong registry entries/keys on your computer to reduce the probability of computer crashes.

*Shortage of Memory* If you try to run some large applications on the computer with poor memory, it is no doubt that probability of crashing would be increased.

2. Computer Crashes caused by Software

*Virus Infections* Virus,Trojan,Worms,Spyware,Malware, etc will absolutely affect computer performance and cause computer crashes frequently. To install a kind of anti-virus software on your computer is very neccessary as a PC user.

*Improper Setting of CMOS* CMOS, short for Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor, is a low-power, low-heat semiconductor technology used in contemporary microchips, especially useful for battery-powered devices. So make sure the settings of it are correct.

*Delete System Files Accidently* If you delete some system files that the operating system could not work properly. Of course there comes the computer crashing. To fix this problem, you can insert the installation boot diskette with the same version of operating system then type in "SYS C?" and transfer the whole system files again. Problem would be resolved very quickly. Or you can download Registry Easy and use the "files recoveryer" function to get those system files back!

*Broken Initialization files* Some initialization files such as System.ini,Win.ini,User.dat,System.dat are vital to Windows Startup. If those files were broken or get something wrong, computer will fail to start and also will freeze even crashes!

To avoid and fix computer crashes, it is strongly recommended you download Registry Easy with lots of maintenance toolkits to clean the registry errors of your system because many registry errors would slow down, freeze and crashes your computer. Click here to free download Registry Easy to detect Windows errors on your computer.

“Purchasing the Perfect Computer: – Is the FIRST Time”

By: sidharth

So you've finally decided it's time for a change. No matter what advice you follow that old workhorse of a desktop computer you have has outlived its usefulness with slow loading applications and a continuous rise in operation noise.

Searching for that Perfect Computer can be about as much fun as purchasing a new car and about as frustrating also when sorting through the various brands while trying to decide which "bells and whistles" best fit your needs. Besides all that trying to return something that is so large can be both inconvenient and very difficult to do. So making the right decision the FIRST time is the wise path of choice.

For starters you'll need to decide what you want to do with your computer. Are you into the video game scene or are you someone who likes to just surf the internet and occasionally do some book keeping with simple word processing software?

If you're into video games you're going to want a machine that can handle the high level of graphics and superior sound quality. On the other hand if you're not into all that high adrenalin stuff you can probably get by with a less expensive system. Although, if you want to stay on the safe side I would recommend going with something more "high-end" so you don't have to spend another large chunk of change to upgrade the system you just bought.

There are two basic routes you can take when purchasing a new computer.
1) Purchase a "Brand Name" Computer
2) Purchase a "Clone" Computer

A "BRAND-NAME" computer is one that is manufactured by a company that is recognizable by name.

Some Advantages/Disadvantages of "Brand-Name" computers include:

Advantages-

Customer Support- If you are experiencing problems with your computer you will have the option to contact a representative of the company that you purchased the PC from to get help in solving your problem.

Customer support is probably the best reason to buy a brand-name computer.

Warranty- Having a warranty is always nice since it acts as a type of security blanket for you.

In case a part on your computer should fail you should be able to get the item fixed at no charge just as long as the warranty has not expired.

Read and understand a company's warranty policy BEFORE you purchase a computer from them.

This way you'll have a good understanding of the procedures to follow in case a problem should arise.

Pre-installed Software- Many companies will include software packages that are all set up and ready to go for you on your computer.

Although, a disadvantage of buying a brand-name computer with software pre-installed is that you usually end up with more than fits your needs and usually just results with the wasting of space on your storage device.

Additional Support- Most brand-name computer companies are also able to provide you with web sites that may provide you with current software updates, user manuals, or basic troubleshooting help.

Disadvantages-

The use of Proprietary parts- the term Proprietary refers to products that are unique to an individual company and that company only.

So if a part was to malfunction on your computer after warranty and you needed to replace it you could not just go to your local computer store and purchase any old part even if it was intended for the same function as the item that failed.

You would be forced to buy the exact same item that came out of the computer or else the computer would more than likely cease to function correctly.

Having to buy proprietary parts usually involves the need to place an order which means you'll have to wait for the part to arrive or you'll have to send your computer into the company or an authorized dealer of that company for repairs.

People with a home based business would probably not be too happy with that situation at all.

Integrated/On-board parts- In the computer world when you hear the word integrated or on-board it means that a particular part such as the modem or sound port where you plug in your speakers, is built-in or part of the computer main board (Also known as the Motherboard).

This means that if any of these items should fail, you can't just remove them from the computer and replace them with a new part. They are usually soldered directly to the main board and are stuck there.

Although, some computers do provide a way to disable a malfunctioning device which will allow you to install your own store bought device to take the place of the broken part.

From a computer technicians point of view this is not always easy to do.

It just depends on what brand of computer you currently have. Meaning some are easier to work on than others.

A "CLONE" computer is a clone or a copy of its brand-name counterpart with the exception that instead of company specific or proprietary parts, the items used to make a clone computer are from several different companies instead of only one.

Let's say that if you were to go to a local company that builds "clone" computers, and you tell them what you need, chances are they don't use parts that are specific to only that type of computer like the brand-name computer companies do.

This is a good thing because it means that they will probably use components that are interchangeable with many different brands and are easy to come by if needed.

Some Advantages/Disadvantages of "Clone" computers include:

Advantages-

Cost- compared to brand-name computers the clone will generally be easier on your pocket book when purchasing one with similar features as its brand-name counterpart.

This is most likely due to the money that is saved by not offering the high-end customer service. Although, that may not be the only reason for the lower prices.

Easily Accessible Replacement Parts- Since the clone computer was built with parts that are not any one company specific, you can buy parts for the clone computer that can be used even if the brand is different from the one that was in the computer when you originally bought it.

Note: Before you buy any parts, it is necessary to make sure that the replacement parts are compatible with your particular computer system requirements.

Either consults the manual that should have came with your computer or get help from a knowledgeable friend or repairperson.

Disadvantages-

Warranties- Unless you purchase a service plan you will typically not have as an attractive warranty as you would with a brand-name computer company.

Whatever you do just make sure you understand how long the warranty is for and as to what kind of repairs the warranty covers before you make the purchase.

Customer Support- With brand-name computer companies you are usually provided with a 24-hour toll free number that you can call if you have questions or concerns with your computer.

Clone computers are more than likely not going to have a 24-hour help service, but rather you will be forced to only be able to call during regular business hours.

Also, it is more than likely that there will not be any one website that you can go to in order to find out information concerning troubleshooting questions you may have.

For service it may be necessary to take the computer back to the store that you bought it at or you may have to do some research on the individual parts that went into the computer and visit the manufacturer's website for troubleshooting tips.

Finally, if all else fails you can certainly take what you have learned from this article and being that you know what you need now, but don't know where to go and get that "Perfect Computer", the best resource at your disposal are the very men and woman that work at your local electronics shop.

It is their duty to help you get hold of that "Perfect Computer" that best fits your needs. All you need to do is tell them what you plan on using that computer for and they should be more than happy to help you from there.

Basic Computer Hardware

By: M. Holland

Computer Hardware

Obviously, before you can put together a computer, you're going to need to purchase some hardware. And before you can purchase hardware, you need to know what you're looking for! In this section, I will explain the primary components of a computer and their basic functions.

1. Computer Case

The computer case is the outer protective case that houses all of the computers components. The case is as far into the computer that most people ever look. The computer case is often mistakenly referred to as the CPU, which really stands for Central Processing Unit, or the processor.

Computer cases are most commonly constructed from steel, aluminium, and/or plastic. Occasionally, they have Plexiglas or acrylic windows, allowing a clear view of the internal components from the outside.

Computer cases come in many different shapes and sizes. The shape is generally determined by the form-factor of the motherboard, since it is the largest component of most home or office PC's. These days, most home computer cases are Tower cases, and house an ATX form-factor motherboard. For the tutorials on this site, tower cases and atx motherboards will be assumed.

2. The Motherboard

The motherboard (or main board) is the backbone of any home, office, or gaming computer. It is the large circuit board in the center of the computer case that every other component connect to. It contains the system BIOS (Basic Input Output System) and controller chips for the processor, memory, optical drives, hard drives, and expansion cards, among other things.

Selecting the correct motherboard is one of the most important decisions when putting your custom computer together. The motherboard determines what type of processor and memory your computer will use, and what sort of storage, media, and expansion options you will have. Selecting the wrong motherboard could be disastrous! For example: if you need to build a computer that has four internal hard drives, and your motherboard only has connectors for two, you will be out of luck!

3. Processor

The processor, or CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the brain of the computer. It carries out the instructions of a computer program, and is the primary element carrying out the computer's functions. The fundamental operation of most CPUs, regardless of the physical form they take, is to execute a sequence of stored instructions called a program.

The speed at which processors can execute instructions is called the Clock Rate, or clock speed. When selecting a processor for your new computer, clock speed is very important, as it will have a large impact on how fast your new computer is.

These days, most processors on the market are multi-core. Having a multi-core processor is like having two (or more) workers carrying out your instructions. While one worker carries out Task A, the other can work on Task B. If there is only one task, both workers can split the work evenly and help each other out! There is significantly more to multi-core processors, but for the beginner, it should be obvious that multi-core processors are a solid decision!

4. Memory

Random Access Memory (RAM) provides space for your computer to read and write data to be accessed by the CPU. When people refer to a computer's memory, they are usually referring to the RAM.

If you add more RAM to your computer, you reduce the number of times your CPU must read data from your hard disk. This usually allows your computer to work considerably faster, as RAM is many times faster than a hard disk. For many people (and maybe for you!), adding more RAM is the first computer upgrade they attempt themselves.

RAM is volatile, so data stored in RAM stays there only as long as your computer is running and electricity is flowing through the memory. As soon as you turn the computer off, the data stored in RAM disappears.

There are many different kinds of RAM you can buy, so it is important to ensure you select the proper type of RAM for your motherboard.

5. Hard Drive

The Hard drive, or Hard Disk Drive (HDD), is storage where all of the computers files and programs are kept. Everything stored on the hard drive is permanent, and unlike RAM, will not be lost when you power the computer off.

A hard disk stores data the same way a cassette tape does, through a magnetic storage technique. This makes data stored on a hard disk very easy to erase, revise and replace. Moreover, the magnetic recording patterns are stored on a hard disk for a long time. As such, the only way to definitely erase data that has ever been stored on the disk's magnetic surface is to physically destroy the disk.

Since the Hard Drive holds all of your data, the most important factor to consider when selecting one for you computer is size. Today, hard drive size is measured in Gigabytes. One gigabyte is roughly 1,000 megabytes, and one megabyte is roughly 1,000 kilobytes. The size of the hard drive you select will be dependant on your individual storage needs.

6. Optical Drive

The optical drive is a disk drive that uses laser light or electromagnetic waves near the light spectrum as part of the process of reading or writing data to or from optical discs. Some drives can only read from discs, but recent drives are commonly both readers and recorders. Recorders are sometimes called burners or writers. Compact discs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs are common types of optical media which can be read and recorded by such drives.

Selecting an optical drive is important, because most media today is distributed via CD or DVD, and this is how much of your data and programs will be installed to your computer. Ensuring you chose a recording optical drive, or burner, is importent if you want to write files to CDs, DVDs, or even Blu-ray discs. Selecting a Blu-ray drive is imporant if you want to watch Blu-ray movies on your computer.

7. Video Card

Video Cards, also known as display cards, graphics cards, graphics controllers, or graphics accelerator cards, convert binary data (bytes) into display images. The Video Card, at its most basic, is a printed circuit board where the major components, namely the graphics processing unit, the video memory, and the motherboard slot are mounted.

Not all computers requre a seperate video card, as many today have the video processing hardware integrated into the motherboard. However, gaming computers, home theater computers, or office computers used for 3D design will require the more powerful hardware offered in a standalone video card.

For custom gaming computers, selecting the proper video card is likely the most important decision you will make.

8. Expansion Cards

There are an assortment of other expansion cards you can add to your custom computer in order to add functionality and features.

9. Power Supply

The power supply unit (PSU) is the component that supplies power to the other components in a computer. Power supplies convert potentially lethal 110-115 or 220-230 volt alternating current (AC) into a steady low-voltage direct current (DC) usable by the computer. A power supply is rated by the number of watts it generates.

The most common computer power supplies are built to conform to the ATX form factor. This enables different power supplies to be interchangeable with different components inside the computer. ATX power supplies also are designed to turn on and off using a signal from the motherboard, and provide support for modern functions such as the standby mode available in many computers.

Ever Asked How to Connect a TV to a Computer? Here's the Answer

By: joginder singh

Nearly all modern TVs (Plasma, LCD or TFT) maybe connected to your Computers (Laptops, Laptop computers or PC). This can be done almost immediately with a range of cables or connections like VGA, RGB, DVI, HDMI, S-video or RCA straight out of the box. The most common of these connections is the VGA it is probably the easiest way to connect a TV to a computer. VGA has been used to connect monitors or screens to the Central Processing Unit (CPU) of computers for many years now. If you have a Laptop it will be the cable used to connect an external monitor.

There are other ways to ask the same question when connecting Computers and TVs so if your have thought of any of the following:

•    How to connect your TV to your Computer?

•    How to connect TV to computer?

•    How to connect a TV to a computer?

•    How to connect your computer to your TV?

•    Is there anyway of connecting TV to computer?

•    How to hook up computer to TV?

Then continue reading.

If you do not posses any of the connectors mentioned so far you can buy them from any Electrical or Computer shop. With any of the cables connections you will be able to easily bridge the gap between your Laptop/Computer and TV. If your Television (TV) is not equipped with either VGA or DVI then the process will not be as straight forward but it still should not be too difficult to connect a TV to a computer. You could consider using RCA or S-video as a way to hook up computer to TV. All is not lost, so do not get down heartened if your TV does not have any of these connections. All that is needed is a VGA to TV converter which will give you either an S-video or RCA to connect to so you will be up and running in no time. Yet another way of connecting your computer to your TV is with HDMI. The only draw back is your TV must be HDMI compatible, this should not be problem as it is becoming more common these days. So to connect a TV to a computer will be as easy as pie.

Once you have all the required connections it maybe necessary to set your TVs to accept the output signal from your Laptop/Computer. You will find the instructions to achieve this within the menu of your TV, if it cannot be found then consult your TV manual for instructions. If all the connections are firmly in place and the TV is setup correctly to receive the computers signal you should see your computer screen on your TV. http://www.satelitedirect.us/

If you would like to make this connection as seamless as possible you could purchase a switch to change from Computer monitor to TV screen without disconnecting any of the connections. I must stress that this is not essential so you do not have to buy one. If you feel it is needed it is available at most Computer or Electrical stores.

For those of you who are a little more adventurous you could go a little step further and tap into the audio of your Computer/Laptop. Again to accomplish this Computer connection to TV audio you might have all the connections you need. This can be done with a Mini Stereo plug/jack to a Phono lead (RCA composite audio). The Mini Stereo plug goes into the audio output normally at the back of your Computer or into the audio output of your Laptop. The Phono ends goes into the audio input of your TV. This would mean there is no connection output to your Computer or Laptop speakers to get audio output to both the Computer/Laptop speakers and your TV your need a mini plug splitter, which is self explanatory to install. You will now have both Audio and Video signals from your Computer/Laptop and your TV.

That was the basics of how to connect your TV to your Computer. To go further still you can reconfigure and or purchase more equipment to enhance your Home Entertainment System.

You have had a good start so never will you ask yourself any of the following questions again.

•    How to connect your TV to your Computer?

•    How to connect TV to computer?

•    How to connect your computer to your TV?

•    Is there anyway of connecting TV to computer?

•    How to hook up computer to TV?

•    How do you connect your computer to your TV? http://www.satelitedirect.us/

If you still need more information on whether it is possible, how to connect a TV to a computer or just other configurations or how to get a better discount on a lot of these purchases then click the link.

Benefits of Computer Glasses

By: Sujata Raj

The world today revolves around computers, be it at work, or for creating a school assignment, or even playing games on it. Today's life is not complete without a computer. Not only office goers and other professionals, but now-a-days more and more children and homemakers are also using computers on a daily basis.

But, working for long hours on a computer causes lot of strain and thus is harmful to the eyes. According to research, our eyes can focus well on printed material, as they are not pixalated, but computer characters or words are made up of many pixels or dots and the eyes find it hard to focus on these pixels and therefore to see the words well, the eyes have to strain. These constant strains on the eye muscle create burning eyes, fatigue, aching, dry, and tired eyes, collectively known as Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). CVS is caused because our eyes and brain react differently to characters on a computer screen as characters on a computer screen don't have the same degree of contrast and definition as that of printed characters.

To overcome CVS, computer glasses are recommended by experts. Computer glasses are prescription glasses that have been designed to be worn while working on a computer. These glasses help the wearer to focus their vision on a computer screen in the same manner as on printed material and thus they reduce the strain caused to the eyes while working for long hours on a computer. These glasses also eliminate the constant refocusing effort the eyes have to go through when viewing the screen. Also, it has been proven clinically that having the correct prescription in computer eyeglasses increases productivity and accuracy. So, with computer eye glasses, you can read and work on your computer for a long time, without getting your eyes tired.

Computer glasses give more than just relief from headaches and tiredness. In today's fast world, there is no better feeling like being alert and attentive even after eight hours of working. Using these glasses will make you realize that a simple thing as wearing glasses can do a lot of good for you, as no one can put an amount on the ability to see clearly.

However, there is a big difference between computer glasses and reading glasses. If you already have been prescribed reading glasses and also work on a computer on a daily basis, you should not substitute computer glasses for your reading glasses. This will cause long-term damage to your eyes. Computer glasses are designed only to ease the stress your eyes undertake when working on a computer, so, consult your ophthalmologist to give you specially prescribed computer glasses and use your reading glasses when not working on the computer.

Using computer glasses while working on a computer is very important, even if you do not have any vision problems. Studies suggest that most computer users experience some level of eye discomfort from working on the computer on a daily basis. So, get computer glasses to protect your eyes from CVS and increase your productivity and accuracy.

Computer Diagnostic Tools Explained

By: Neville Sinclair

At its most basic form, a computer diagnostic tool outputs a message indicating an error with a computer program, system or device. Many times, computers will get slow for seemingly no reason at all. Devices often malfunction and system problems can arise out of nowhere. For people who rely on their computer for business or personal use, these computer errors can be frustrating and problematic. So often with computers, people try to cure the problem by focusing on the symptoms. This is poor treatment for any kind of problem, whether computer or medical. The right computer diagnostic tool can help identify the source of the problem rather than focusing on the symptoms.

Using a computer diagnostic tool to find the root cause of a computer error or dysfunction will save you time, money and stress. When you focus on getting rid of the symptoms, the problem will eventually return. This causes unnecessary stress and takes up your valuable time to take care of the same problem repeatedly. When you go straight to the root cause of the problem, you can quickly replace or repair that component and be rid of the problem for good.

Computer diagnostic tools come in a couple of different forms. Software is one of the forms. Computer diagnostic software scans the registry of your computer to find incomplete, inactive and incorrect registry entries. Many computer diagnostic software programs can also repair or remove problematic registry entries. This helps to increase the speed of your computer and can help take care of system errors, as well.

If you are having problems with hardware components on your computer, diagnostic software may not be able to identify the problem. Some software is more versatile and geared towards detecting hardware problems, while others focus more on internal system and application issues. To solve hardware problems, you can invest in computer diagnostic tools that hook up to your computer hardware.

Computer diagnostic tools for hardware components hook up to the different components and test them for proper functioning capabilities and activities. These tools can be more of an investment than their software counterparts, but they provide a quick and effective method for locating faulty hardware or hardware running at a limited capacity. This allows you to easily repair or replace the disabled hardware component, saving you the time and money it would cost to send your computer to a professional computer technician.

Investing in one or more computer diagnostic tools is a great way to protect the investment you put into your computer. The proper diagnostic tools can help keep your computer running quickly and efficiently for many years without having to pay for costly computer repairs and overhauls. Computer diagnostic tools are also the perfect solution for a computer do-it-yourself individual.

Different types of computer repair services

By: Sunil Punjabi

There are lots of repair centers providing these services. They provide online, telephonic, or onsite services. Besides these different types of services, there are also computer repair centers that are better equipped in servicing different types of computers, servers, and laptops. Under the large umbrella called computer maintenance and repair, there are different methods of computer servicing. Online computer repair is becoming increasingly popular because of the way in which its service is delivered. In this method the computer maintenance and repair, technicians access the system online, and rectify the problem. Both the client and the service provider are benefited by this arrangement. It frees the technician from the job of coming over to the client's place, and frees the customer from the need of hauling the computer all the way to the service center if onsite service is not available.

computer maintenance and repair may be done through telephonic instructions also. Here, the client is instructed by the computer repair technician on the steps required to get the problem rectified. There are repair centers which do the computer maintenance and support of all types of Macintosh computers, Laptops, and PCs. Still, before entrusting their computers to any computer repair center, users should ideally check whether their technicians are familiar with that particular brand of computer.

Custom building a computer may not exactly come under the rubric of computer repair. Still it is something that many repair companies undertakes to do.
