Online Malware Removal Can Fix Your Computer Fast - What You Should Do If You Think You Have Malware

Online Malware Removal Can Fix Your Computer Fast - What You Should Do If You Think You Have Malware

Author: Dex Dillo

Online malware removal can fix your computer fast. Do you have the unfortunate problem with your computer where it is constantly running slow and, at times, freezing up? Do you keep receiving pop up ads and error messages? There is a good chance that your computer is infected with Malware. This means that your computer has been infected by some type of "malicious software". A malware program gets into your computer's hard drive, without your knowledge, and starts doing its work.

It can also be referred to as a computer virus. These programs do great amounts of damage and generally enter your computer through a worm or Trojan Horse. These viruses can stop certain programs from running that are necessary for the computer to function properly. In some cases, your system could crash completely. Other, less severe viruses place cookies in your web browser. You know all of the annoying pop up ads that you get? Well these are a result of these viruses. If you have any personal information stored on your computer, the people who created the virus will also be able to access it, potentially causing you a lot of grief. If you didn't already know, identity theft is the most rapid growing crime in North America, and this is mainly due to malware.

If you are now scared to use your computer, don't be. There are different steps that you can take to protect your computer from these malicious software programs. The following are important steps that you should consider.

1. Make sure that every computer you own is protected.
2. Make sure that you have internet security software and that it is installed and running properly. You can purchase and download these programs online.
3. Make sure that you avoid clicking on any pop-ups, no matter how tempting the offer might be. Also make sure that any email you open is from someone you know.
4. If your computer shows signs that it is infected, run an antivirus scan. Be sure to back up any important files onto a removable storage device so that they are not lost.
5. Install a pop-up blocker and firewall.
6. If your system becomes damaged, use system restore to restore everything to an earlier date.
7. Hackers are smart and know what they are doing; never underestimate them.

Correcting Computer Problems Yourself

Correcting Computer Problems Yourself

Author: Brian LaCrette

One of the biggest mistakes made by the average computer user is assuming that they cannot correct various software or hardware problems on their systems. Many times these we end up paying out money to have someone come over to our residence to correct problems on our pc. While there are some problems that do require expert help, many of the regular problems faced by pc users can be corrected themselves with a little research and patience. Instead of paying money each month, we can save hundreds of dollars by getting repairing our computers ourselves. But just how can we do this?

One of the most useful tools finding the answers to correcting problems on your computer is the search engine named google. To do this, you'll need some specific information about the problem with your computer. For instance, you may be getting an error code when you turn on your computer or try to start a program. For instance, you may get the following error when running a program named Spybot Search & Destroy: check sum error. How can you use google to get help with this? Start by going to google.com. Next type in "check sum error spybot search & destroy" with the quotations around it. If nothing comes up in the results. Try to simplify the search term. Try typing in "check sum error spybot" with the quotations around it. You can even try typing the following: "check sum error" spybot. This time the word spybot was outside of the quotes. In the results that come up, you may have to go through two or three pages, or you may get the answer on the first try. You'll likely find a website where other pc users like yourself had a similar problem, and a detailed answer of how to correct it.

An easier way to solve problems may be going to a website that is designed to help pc users. These websites are called forums. The way forums work is that you sign up for an account, you post a question, and someone answers your question - explaining how you can solve your current problem. Many of these forums are free to sign up for and to use. One such forum is ScreamingPC (located at http://www.screamingpc.com). At this forum, not only can you ask questions, but you can find articles, as well as computer news and other helpful information.

What ever your choice is in choosing how to solve problems on your computer, it doesn't always require you to spend money. With some time and patience you can use the first option mentioned above of using google to search for help. Alternatively, you can use a computer forum such as screamingpc.com to find helpful advice from fellow pc users. Why not give both a try. They are both free, and will both give you savings in the long run.

How To Choose the Ideal Computer Monitor

How To Choose the Ideal Computer Monitor

Author: James.King

Computer monitors, like televisions, have increased their quality dramatically as the price has dropped. While Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitors were once standard for computer monitors, they are taking the back seat to Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) monitors. LCD monitors are a great choice for all but professional level graphic designers. LCD monitors provide stellar colors and resolution in a compact, convenient package that is so much lighter than its CRT grandfathers. With the low cost and space-saving ability of LCD monitors, many people choose to replace their old CRT monitors that were yesterday’s standard. However, are all LCD monitors the same, or are there things to look out for in a monitor? Here is a quick guide:

First priority when deciding on a monitor is to look at what you need. What are you using the computer for? Do you use it for web surfing, online videos, games, and high demand multimedia, or are you using it for graphic design, photo editing or web site building? For the video game fanatic or someone who wants clarity on DVDs, look for a monitor that has a fast response time. LCD screens are classified by the type of screen technology they utilize including TN, IPS, and VA. These classifications have different strengths and weaknesses in response time, contrast ratio and viewing angles. However, for anyone but the most picky graphic designer, a TN screen will be more than sufficient.

Next, you have to look at the size of the screen you need. A few years ago a 19-inch screen was considered huge, but today, they are fairly standard. Today, you can find LCD monitors up to 21 to 22 inches for as low as $150. While a massive monitor might seem cool, it might take up too much desktop real estate and be awkward for everyday computing. Some LCD screens are also in widescreen format, which means that they are wider than they are tall.

Another performance piece to consider is how much your computer graphics card can handle. Often, if replacing the old CRT monitor that came with a computer, consumers will be surprised to experience lower performance at home then they saw in a showroom or at a friend’s home. The reason behind this is that the advanced technology of new monitors can be limited by the graphics card in your computer. Some new monitors have so many colors that a new card must be purchased in order for the monitor to function properly.

This leads us to the last consideration: budget. Monitors can range in price between under $100 to more than $1,000, so have in mind what you would like to spend, the applications you will use it for, and the options and performance you want from it. Keep in mind that if you are adding the monitor to an older computer there may be a cost associated with upgrading a graphics card on your computer. Finally, make sure that the monitor you choose comes with all necessary cables as this can be an additional expense not factored into the price.

Is Spyware Slowing Your Computer Down to a Crawl?

Is Spyware Slowing Your Computer Down to a Crawl?

Author: krishankant

Everyday more and more computers are becoming infected with Spyware and Adware (advertising tracking). No matter where you go on the web, someone is trying to sneak something on your computer. From honest web sites placing simple logon cookies, to paid advertising tracking your movements on the web, to malicious software that is designed to record your keystrokes and discover your passwords, Spyware and Adware have together become the web’s number one problem.

Many of these programs are down right dangerous and seriously threaten your online privacy and identity. But even the simple and supposedly benign Adware programs can cause you serious problems.

Spyware is any program that installs itself onto your computer with the intent to spy on your activity. This can be recording your online searching habits, or whatever you type on your keyboard. Adware is not much better. It is designed to watch what you do online, where you go, which terms you search for and then report this to the ad agency that runs the adware program.

Adware programs may be designed with the best intentions in mind, but even these can cause your computer serious problems.

Here is what happens. Many if not most, advertisers on the internet will try and place a cookie or other small program on your computer. Many will add code that will track that cookie as it hits different pages. The code may be designed simply to gather anonymous data, or it may be trying to send ads to your browser that the advertising company thinks you will be more likely to respond to.

Whatever the case, the Adware or Spyware is using your computer to do its tracking. This means that part of your computer’s power and CPU cycles are being diverted away from the activity you are trying to perform. Your computer is being used by someone else instead to track your movements. Now, when we multiply this behavior by tens or hundreds of Adware or Spyware programs all trying to use your computer for their work you can begin to see the problem.

These programs can literally slow your computer down to a crawl, or make it crash altogether. They can fill your computer up with trash files, open unwanted popup windows, use up the space in your internet cache and generally just make working on your computer a nightmare.

Luckily there are several easy solutions to the problem. But first let me make one distinction, Spyware and Adware are not the same thing as a computer virus. Although a computer virus can install spyware on a computer, you will need different tools to remove a computer virus and to keep your system clean from Spyware and Adware. You should be using both a high quality commercial anti-virus program and one or more good quality programs for handling the spyware/adware problem.

There are several good Spyware/adware programs on the market. I use two different programs on my network, Ad-aware from Lavasoft and Spy Sweeper from Webroot Software although there are several others. You can easily find both of these by doing an internet search for Ad-aware and Spy Sweeper. Or simply do a search for spyware. Both of these programs will scan your hard drives and registry and present you with a list of spyware/adware programs hiding on your system. You can then quarantine or remove the offending programs. I use both of these programs since neither one seems to catch everything. Plus I will run them 2 or more times in a row, the nastier spyware will not be completely removed on the first pass.

The process is very easy and I recommend running these programs at least once a week and every time you have been doing some extended web surfing. You will be surprised at how many of these spyware/adware programs will sneak onto your system. I run a very clean network and I have yet to scan my system and not come up with at least a few of these hiding on my hard drive.

So be aware of the problem, take reasonable precautions, scan your system frequently, and the spyware/adware curse can be broken.

For example, if someone sends you an email message with an attachment that is infected by a virus, if you open up that attachment your computer will become infected. Some of the most malicious email viruses are smart enough to gather the email addresses of everyone in your email address book, and email themselves out to everyone. This, the virus can be spread extremely quickly. The best way to avoid getting an email virus is not to open email from email address that you don't recognize. Many email programs now come with virus scans of attachments before you even download them. Some email programs even separate large email files, most likely to be spam, into separate spam folders. Companion viruses: Companion viruses affect your computer's MS-DOS. Companion viruses have the ability to create malicious files that look exactly like valid files on your computer. For example, if you type in the name of a program that you want to use, and do not type the ".exe" extension to that program along with it, your computer's MS-DOS will think that you meant the file that comes first in alphabetical order. Thus, your computer will then execute the virus instead of the program that you wanted to run. Luckily, running newer operating systems like Windows XP will prevent such viruses, as Windows XP does not use the MS-DOS prompt. Trojan horse viruses: Trojan horse viruses are actually a form of malware, but they are also considered viruses because of the damage that they can cause to your computer. Trojan horse virus is tricky. It can be something as simple as a desktop screensaver that you want to put on your computer. Only, when you install the screensaver with the virus, the Trojan horse actually goes in and lets hackers into your computer system. Hackers can take a look at any passwords, bank account, credit card, or other personal information you have on your PC. Trojan horse viruses can be so malicious that they can even erase your files without your consent. If you want to stay safe from computer viruses such as the ones mentioned above, it is imperative that you purchase high-quality virus protection software as well as a firewall that will make it difficult for anyone or anything to access your computer.

Easy Steps to an Error-Free Computer

Easy Steps to an Error-Free Computer

Author: chpeddle

Some of the easy steps you can take to assist you in having an error-free Windows PC are:

- Remove junk data from your hard drive
- Detect and remove virus and spyware software
- Manage start-up programs
- Clean computer registry

Let is promptly have a look at the techniques and tools you can take advantage of to execute these steps.

Remove Junk From Your Hard Drive

As your PC becomes older a lot of garbage accumulates on your hard drive. This junk data ordinarily consists of temporary, outdated, and damaged files, as well as, unnecessary programs, and outdated software setup files. In addition, when you work on your PC, you have a propensity to duplicate a lot of documents, in particular music and video files from PCs belonging to your acquaintances or colleagues. In the process, you may well duplicate a small number of files which over time fills up your hard drive. All this clutter not only cloggs up the hard drive but also results in the fragmentation of the data saved on it.

Here are a a small number of tools that you can make use of to clean up and restore your hard drive:

Program Removal Tools: You may use Add or Remove Programs in Windows or an efficient third-party program removal tool to remove programs you do not utilize.

Disk Clean Up Tools: You can use the Disk Cleanup tool accessible in Windows or a trustrworthy, vigorous third-party tool to eliminate duplicate records, rubbish files and oudated personal information from your hard drive.

Disk Defragmenter Tool: You can utilize the Disk Defragmenter tool in Windows to examine your hard drive for fragmented data and then rearrange it to create contiguous data.

Detect and Remove Virus and Spyware Software

If your notebook keeps displaying random errors, chances are it is infected by one of more malware programs, such as spyware or virus software. Hence, you should immediately sweep your computer with a trustworthy anti-virus and anti-spyware tool to remove these malware which are not only chewing up your resources but also attempting to damage your PC. To guarantee that your anti-malware tools are successful in fighting these security threats, you must take charge of the following:

Update your anti-virus and anti-spyware regularly. You should try to opt for software that provides you with live update features. This way your tools are updated as soon as new virus definitions are released.

Opt for a tool that provides you with real-time protection. This ensures that your computer is protected from threats continuously.

Plan recurring complete computer registry scans to guarantee that your PC is scanned at regular time periods to remove all malware infections that might have penetrated the computer.

Manage Start-up Programs

Frequently, PC slowdown problems and program conflict errors occur because of too many programs loading at system boot-up. A lot of these programs are not even necessary to load automatically since they are only required when you need to employ their particular software application. To direct start-up programs and disable the ones you don't need, you may use the System Configuration Utility in Windows or a trustworthy third-party start-up program administrator tool. Either way you will not only free your PC from various start-up errors, but you will also maximize your computer's operation for greater performance.

Clean Computer Registry

A large, bloated computer registry is also another cause of several PC errors such as processing slowdowns and computer freeze ups. To eradicate these problems it is critical that you regularly scan and remove unwanted files and unnecessary software from your computer registry. One effective and dependable way to do this is by using a high-quality registry cleaner tool, such as one of the popular ones reviewed on my website. Computers have continued to evolve since their inception decades ago and today we can definitely proclaim that we are living in a computer age. There are few facets of our lives that remain untouched by computers today and the technology continues to develop all the time. What is needed as a result are skilled professionals who are trained in designing, adapting, maintaining and implementing these new technologies and making our lives more productive as a result.

Computer training can be divided into a number of sub-specialties that include computer hardware, computer networking, computer software, and Web development. For those students who have an interest in math and science and show an aptitude for problem solving and analytical skills, a career in computers might be the right one for you. Working towards a career in computers can be done in several ways. You can opt for Associate, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree programs and / or complete various certifications and certificate programs. Some employers require specific certifications in addition to your degree while others may need only a certification or two. It is therefore sensible to research the jobs that you are interested in and find out what exactly is demanded from a potential job applicant. In general, there are three main fields of study that you can choose from â€" a computer science degree, a computer networking and technology degree, and a computer programming degree.

Computer Science Degrees - Students interested in computer science degrees might be surprised to discover that the curriculum is barely about computers. Computer science degrees aim to prepare students to understand the technology behind computers and to analyze and solve problems and develop new technologies. There is a strong focus on mathematical computing and data analysis making computer sciences an extremely math-oriented program. As a graduate with a computer science degree, you can expect to spend a large part of your education and career in research. Colleges offer a wide range of computer science degrees from Associate’s to Masters but the minimum requirement for most employers is normally a four-year Bachelor’s degree. Many schools also offer a computer science degree program in tandem with another specialization such as engineering or information sciences for those students who want to diversify into more specific fields after they graduate. Employment opportunities are assured to computer science students as companies are always in need of professionals to develop and maintain their software and hardware. If you want the upper hand in the competitive IT market, a computer science degree would be very useful.

Computer Programming Degrees â€" Computer programming as a career looks to be stable over the next few years. As long as students are prepared to be up-to-date with the current advancements and technological certifications, there should be no dearth of job opportunities for graduates with a computer programming degree. Computer programmers are those professionals who develop, test and maintain the programs that determine a computer’s functions. Programmers create new computer languages and tools to make computers do specific tasks. Top employers of computer programmers include software development companies who create packaged and specialized software. These could range from general use software, games, educational packages and the like. Programmers with a strong technical base and skills to understand a client’s requirements are always in demand. Web-based organizations, multimedia companies, wireless applications, cyber security are all up and coming new arenas that programming graduates can look forward to as challenging job prospects.

Computer Technology and Networking Degree â€" A degree in networking and technology will introduce you to the latest theories and practices in computer networking and technology. Students will learn about operating systems of computer networks and will be trained in installing and maintaining the various structures and components of these networks. Job possibilities include becoming a network administrator, computer support specialist or a network systems analyst. Statistics indicate that as industries and businesses rely more and more heavily on the Internet and computer technology, the demand for such jobs will only increase.

Computer Engineering College Programs- Software and Hardware

Computer Engineering College Programs- Software and Hardware

Author: Christine Thomas

College computer engineering programs exposes the students to a variety of computer related issues covering both the hardware and software. Computer engineering college students can either specialize in software engineering or hardware engineering. Software engineering will mainly focus on the development, design, analysis, implementation and maintenance of the computer software. Any computer engineering college dealing with software engineering will teach students how to program in various computer languages such as Java, C++ and Visual Basics.

A computer engineering college offering hardware engineering will mostly be dealing with the physical parts of the computer and how they work. The hardware includes the monitor, CPU, keyboard, mouse and other accessories such as scanners, printers and modems. A good computer engineering school will normally offer both hardware and software engineering options for the learners to choose but those that are specific to either one of the two are good too because they tend to have adequate specific teaching materials ad equipment.

Most specific computer engineering programs will tend to incorporate the other because they are integrated in way. It is very hard to isolate the software from the hardware and vice versa hence programs usually have both only that focus is given to one area. A computer engineering school will normally engage its students in research and projects that are aimed at helping them understand the basics of computer engineering through practical work.

Computer engineering college programs are closely related to mathematics and electrical engineering programs as well as other related sciences. A computer engineering school that wants to be up to date in the skills it imparts in its students will normally improve and up date the programs from time to time to reflect changing technological needs of the IT markets. A Computer engineering program that seeks to balance all computer related issues will normally equip students with computer networking skills, communication systems skills, electronics skills and programming. With these skills, it becomes easier to find jobs as a software programmer, analyst or network developer. As companies adapt to new technologies, these kinds of professionals are highly sought-after in whatever specialization.

“Purchasing the Perfect Computer: – Is the FIRST Time

“Purchasing the Perfect Computer: â€" Is the FIRST Timeâ€?

Author: sandeep

So you’ve finally decided it’s time for a change. No matter what advice you follow that old workhorse of a desktop computer you have has outlived its usefulness with slow loading applications and a continuous rise in operation noise.

Searching for that Perfect Computer can be about as much fun as purchasing a new car and about as frustrating also when sorting through the various brands while trying to decide which “bells and whistles best fit your needs. Besides all that trying to return something that is so large can be both inconvenient and very difficult to do. So making the right decision the FIRST time is the wise path of choice.

For starters you’ll need to decide what you want to do with your computer. Are you into the video game scene or are you someone who likes to just surf the internet and occasionally do some book keeping with simple word processing software?

If you’re into video games you’re going to want a machine that can handle the high level of graphics and superior sound quality. On the other hand if you’re not into all that high adrenalin stuff you can probably get by with a less expensive system. Although, if you want to stay on the safe side I would recommend going with something more “high-end so you don’t have to spend another large chunk of change to upgrade the system you just bought.

There are two basic routes you can take when purchasing a new computer.
1) Purchase a “Brand Name Computer
2) Purchase a “Clone Computer

A “BRAND-NAME computer is one that is manufactured by a company that is recognizable by name.

Some Advantages/Disadvantages of “Brand-Name computers include:

Advantages-

Customer Support- If you are experiencing problems with your computer you will have the option to contact a representative of the company that you purchased the PC from to get help in solving your problem.

Customer support is probably the best reason to buy a brand-name computer.

Warranty- Having a warranty is always nice since it acts as a type of security blanket for you.

In case a part on your computer should fail you should be able to get the item fixed at no charge just as long as the warranty has not expired.

Read and understand a company’s warranty policy BEFORE you purchase a computer from them.

This way you’ll have a good understanding of the procedures to follow in case a problem should arise.

Pre-installed Software- Many companies will include software packages that are all set up and ready to go for you on your computer.

Although, a disadvantage of buying a brand-name computer with software pre-installed is that you usually end up with more than fits your needs and usually just results with the wasting of space on your storage device.

Additional Support- Most brand-name computer companies are also able to provide you with web sites that may provide you with current software updates, user manuals, or basic troubleshooting help.

Disadvantages-

The use of Proprietary parts- the term Proprietary refers to products that are unique to an individual company and that company only.

So if a part was to malfunction on your computer after warranty and you needed to replace it you could not just go to your local computer store and purchase any old part even if it was intended for the same function as the item that failed.

You would be forced to buy the exact same item that came out of the computer or else the computer would more than likely cease to function correctly.

Having to buy proprietary parts usually involves the need to place an order which means you’ll have to wait for the part to arrive or you’ll have to send your computer into the company or an authorized dealer of that company for repairs.

People with a home based business would probably not be too happy with that situation at all.

Integrated/On-board parts- In the computer world when you hear the word integrated or on-board it means that a particular part such as the modem or sound port where you plug in your speakers, is built-in or part of the computer main board (Also known as the Motherboard).

This means that if any of these items should fail, you can’t just remove them from the computer and replace them with a new part. They are usually soldered directly to the main board and are stuck there.

Although, some computers do provide a way to disable a malfunctioning device which will allow you to install your own store bought device to take the place of the broken part.

From a computer technicians point of view this is not always easy to do.

It just depends on what brand of computer you currently have. Meaning some are easier to work on than others.

A “CLONE computer is a clone or a copy of its brand-name counterpart with the exception that instead of company specific or proprietary parts, the items used to make a clone computer are from several different companies instead of only one.

Let’s say that if you were to go to a local company that builds “clone computers, and you tell them what you need, chances are they don’t use parts that are specific to only that type of computer like the brand-name computer companies do.

This is a good thing because it means that they will probably use components that are interchangeable with many different brands and are easy to come by if needed.

Some Advantages/Disadvantages of “Clone computers include:

Advantages-

Cost- compared to brand-name computers the clone will generally be easier on your pocket book when purchasing one with similar features as its brand-name counterpart.

This is most likely due to the money that is saved by not offering the high-end customer service. Although, that may not be the only reason for the lower prices.

Easily Accessible Replacement Parts- Since the clone computer was built with parts that are not any one company specific, you can buy parts for the clone computer that can be used even if the brand is different from the one that was in the computer when you originally bought it.

Note: Before you buy any parts, it is necessary to make sure that the replacement parts are compatible with your particular computer system requirements.

Either consults the manual that should have came with your computer or get help from a knowledgeable friend or repairperson.

Disadvantages-

Warranties- Unless you purchase a service plan you will typically not have as an attractive warranty as you would with a brand-name computer company.

Whatever you do just make sure you understand how long the warranty is for and as to what kind of repairs the warranty covers before you make the purchase.

Customer Support- With brand-name computer companies you are usually provided with a 24-hour toll free number that you can call if you have questions or concerns with your computer.

Clone computers are more than likely not going to have a 24-hour help service, but rather you will be forced to only be able to call during regular business hours.

Also, it is more than likely that there will not be any one website that you can go to in order to find out information concerning troubleshooting questions you may have.

For service it may be necessary to take the computer back to the store that you bought it at or you may have to do some research on the individual parts that went into the computer and visit the manufacturer’s website for troubleshooting tips.

Finally, if all else fails you can certainly take what you have learned from this article and being that you know what you need now, but don’t know where to go and get that “Perfect Computer, the best resource at your disposal are the very men and woman that work at your local electronics shop.

It is their duty to help you get hold of that “Perfect Computer that best fits your needs. All you need to do is tell them what you plan on using that computer for and they should be more than happy to help you from there.

5 Easy Tips To Keep Your Computer Running Smooth And Safe

5 Easy Tips To Keep Your Computer Running Smooth And Safe

Author: BrandenD

There are various ways to streamline computer performance and functionality. I will show you five very helpful methods that I have learned in the field to help keep your computer running great. Some are free but there are some which will require a small investment which is well worth the cost. This article is for Windows 2000/XP users only.

1. Cleanup your startup menu- This is perhaps the fastest way to improve overall performance and startup speed. To do this, go to the run command line in the start menu and type in msconfig. Please ONLY use the startup tab at the top!! Go through the list of startup programs and disable messengers, updaters, and applications that are not used at all times ie. (quick time task, winzip, Ituneshelper). The rule of thumb here is disable what you know you don't need and don't touch anything you do not understand or recognize, they are most likely drivers and system files.

2. Run a disk defragment- If you notice that your applications are taking a long time to load or are not running as smooth as your used to run a disk defragment. This will basically organize your hard drive to run more efficiently. To run, go to your start menu, program files, accessories, system tools, Disk Defragmenter. Click the analyze button to see if you need to defragment and if you do, click the defragment button. Please note, while running this utility you should not make any system changes including saving and deleting files, installing and/or uninstalling programs or moving files on your hard drive. It is best to just start it and let it run. It can take up to 5 hours depending on the size of the drive and the amount of fragmentation in the volume. This is easiest to start before you go to bed.

3. Use anti-virus- I can't stress this enough, if you are on the internet you need anti-virus. Not only will it protect you from attacks but it will actively scan any files you open and will stop most viruses BEFORE they infect you computer. You will have to purchase this for your computer and I have provided some helpful links to good anti-virus programs. These should be set to be running at all times through the settings of the anti-virus program and updated weekly if not daily.

4. Run spy-bot scans regularly- Spy bots are not the same as viruses. A virus is aimed to infect and deter your computer from running correctly. Spy bots can steal your information, passwords, logins, and are typically malicious in intent. I consider these more dangerous than viruses because they can literally steal your identity without you knowing it and open the door to automatically download viruses to your computer. I have also provided links for effective spy bot removal tools. These should be run twice a month.

5. Registry Cleaners- A little known tool for making a huge performance increase to your computer is running a registry cleaner regularly. Basically what these do is remove any unnecessary piece of your registry left behind from either updating your software, removing a program or deleting program directories. By doing this it will help your computer find the correct paths it needs to run the commands given to it and help avoid "confusion" by removing "broken pieces" in the registry.

Contact Lenses For Computer Users

Contact Lenses For Computer Users

Author: Michael Wright

Most occupations today involve the use of computers. It is estimated that over 143 million Americans use computers each day, and of these around 88% suffer from computer related discomforts. It is also estimated that over 54 million children use computers every day, in schools and at home. As our eyes are not suitable for continuously staring at the computer screen, many have developed Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS).

CVS is the number-one workplace disability, a collection of muscle and eye-related symptoms, with over 75% of all computer users suffering some form of this vision-related disorder. Even people who normally wear glasses or contact lenses in their routine lives find it difficult to focus for long hours on the computer screens.

Contact Lenses For Dry Eyes
People concentrate a lot while working at their computers, and blink less frequently. This can lead to severe discomfort for contact lens users, as not blinking for longer periods can cause the surface of their contact lenses to dry out. Dry eye syndrome, due to lack of blinking in contact lens wearers, can cause blurring and discomfort to them. According to studies, computer users blink around three times less than they normally should. For contact lens wearers, it is advisable that they blink once every 4 to 5 seconds to keep their lens from drying.

Other than the lack of blinking, some types of contact lenses can also cause dry eye syndrome. Generally, soft contact lenses are made of polymers and water, with up to 70% water at times. You feel comfortable as long as the lens is moist, but as the day progresses the water evaporates. The lens absorbs the tears from the eyes to remain moist, but leaves you with a feeling of dry eyes. It is known that the more water the lens contains, the more it is prone to lose its moisture.

As this is a serious problem with contact lens wearers, and more so with those spending hours in front of the computer, many manufacturers are constantly trying to produce contact lenses that will be comfortable for people with dry eyes. One way, it whas been found, is to reduce the water content of the lens. Some people have responded well to the new hydrogel contact lenses. Modern silicon hydrogel lenses are only about 30% water – which is much less than the 50% to 60% of traditional lenses, and the 70% of soft contact lenses. In addition, the new polymers used in the contact lenses keep the lens moist.

Such contact lenses are a boon for computer users, as they will help avoid dry eye syndrome.

Computer Users And Contact Lenses
Dry eye is a common disorder, caused by the deficiency of tears in the eyes, or by excessive tear evaporation. Dry eyes are associated with a number of causes, such as drug use, inflammation, allergic reactions, and contact lens use. Dry eyes often cause contact lens intolerance. People normally suffering from mild dry eyes may not feel any discomfort until they wear contact lenses, and the discomfort increases with the hours spent in front of the computer.

Some doctors recommend switching to Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) contact lenses for those who spend hours working on the computer with their dry eye syndrome. RGP contact lenses are made from polymeric materials and do not contain any water. This is unlike soft lenses, and so water will not evaporate from their surface.

One major advantage of RGP contact lenses is that they do not block oxygen flow to your corneas, as they are gas permeable. This is healthy for your eyes as lack of oxygen can cause serious eye problems, including inflammation of the cornea. Another advantage is that as they contain no moisture, they do not dry out. Therefore, they may be ideal for those working in conditions, such as in front of their computers, where there is a chance of dry eye syndrome.

A computer user with contact lenses with an ophthalmic prescription for nearsightedness – that is for distant viewing – may require either a separate set, or glasses, for extended mid-range VDT use. There are lenses available with tints, to reduce the glare of the VDT screens. The tints used by the computer users can affect either the perceived brightness, or the perceived color, or both.

Let us look at what you can do with your contact lenses to combat your dry eye syndrome while working long hours on your computer:

Use Re-wetting Drops – Though a temporary solution, it does offer relief. If you have sensitive eyes, look for preservative free drops.

Re-soak Lenses – After working for a few hours on your computer, remove your contact lenses, soak them for a few minutes and put them back. You will experience relief from dryness symptoms, and will be able to continue for a few more hours.

Cleaning Lenses – You need to take good care of your lenses, by cleaning them properly. This will add to your comfort, as protein deposits, and other build up such as lipids etc, can contribute to dryness. Insert new lenses as often as prescribed, or change to a better and stronger lens cleaning system.

Increase Blinking – This is the most important thing you can do if you spend many hours in front of your computer. Blinking often, rewets the lenses and increases the comfort level. Lack of proper blinking is the main reason for the dryness of eyes of computer users. You need to make a conscious effort to blink frequently.

Switch To Different Contact Lenses – If you wish, you can still switch to a different brand of contact lenses. It is said that effective contact lenses for computer users are those that are made of the newer, more oxygen permeable silicone hydrogel materials.

If you have dry eyes and your current contact lenses do not feel too comfortable, There is no need to live with the discomfort. You can consult your doctor and switch to ones that will give you comfort while working on your computer.

Michael Wright is a virtual authority on contact lenses. He also writes articles about color contact lenses and toric contact lenses.

Exclusive computer glasses

Exclusive computer glasses

Author: Michelle Perkins

Prolonged time of working on a computer can easily lead to a condition called computer vision syndrome (CVS). The basic reason is that a computer screen sits a special range between 20 and 26 itches. This particular range is different from that is set by other activities. According to ergonomics experts, this exclusive range is formally named intermediate zone of vision. It is closer than distance vision but farther than reading or near vision.

Computer users using naked eyes or regular corrective eyeglasses usually lean forward or backward in order to compensate for the visual range. In this way, symptoms of CVS will occur sooner or later. Those symptoms include visual ones such as blurry vision, double vision, tired eyes and others such as headaches, sore shoulder and backache. This is simply because regular corrective eyeglasses are not designed for the use of intermediate visual zone.

Nowadays, many people have visual problems and wear various eyeglasses and contact lenses for normally corrected vision. While nearsightedness and farsightedness occur mostly in young adults, presbyopia commonly bothers individuals over 40 years old. But all those eyeglasses or contact lenses created for these vision problems are not suitable in the circumstance of computer work. Even the creative trifocal and progressive lenses offer only a small portion for intermediate visual zone.

The perfect solution should be computer eyeglasses, which is supported by many studies conducted by institutes and research organizations worldwide. According to a study performed by the University Of Alabama School Of Optometry, there were significant differences in work productivity and accuracy between two groups of participants: one with computer glasses and the other with non-corrective eyeglasses.

Computer users can pick up a pair of computer glasses simply at a local office supply store. Computer eyeglasses cost an average price of $20 dollars, which is affordable even by ordinary people. An importance while buying cheap computer eyeglasses is to test them by reading something sitting in an intermediate visual zone.

Why Should You Build Your Own Computer Than Buy A Prebuilt One?

Why Should You Build Your Own Computer Than Buy A Prebuilt One?

Author: Dave Mathews

If you are looking for a computer, you know how expensive that they can be. The most cost effective way to get a computer is to learn how to build a computer. You can get computer parts from most any computer seller either online or offline. You may also purchase a computer kit that will help you to create the computer of your choice without all the expense and hassle of trying to customize a computer already built. This is, in reality a much better way to get a computer fully customized to your tastes.
Another thing to consider when you are learning how to build a computer is the ease of assembly. Many a computer kit will have everything that you need to complete either a laptop or desktop and get it up and running. You can also get computer parts cheaply and putting a computer together is one way to make sure that you have the computer that you want. It is also a more cost effective way to get a computer that has everything that you want without having to pay exorbitant fees for extras on a prebuilt computer.
By knowing how to build a computer, you will have the tools and computer parts that you need to complete a bare bones computer kit. You will then be able to create a computer that has everything that you want on it such as RAM, DVD and other features that will cost you extra with a prebuilt computer. You can also customize a built computer to your specifications without having to pay extra for these features. A self built computer from a kit will generally cost you much less than one that is already built, but doesn’t have the features that you want.
For what you would pay for a prebuilt computer, you can learn how to build a computer and build it for much less than what a retail store will sell it for. You will have all the computer parts that you will need from a computer kit to build the computer that you want to have. This is actually more satisfying than going out and getting a prebuilt and having to re customize it yourself with the features that you want. So for the best computer at the best price, you will be much more able to get the computer that you want by building it.
It costs far less to build a computer that is totally to your specifications than it is to go out and buy one. Most Destructive - Computer Worm Vs Computer Virus

Most Destructive - Computer Worm Vs Computer Virus

Author: Amy Jones

Computer virus is something most people are aware of. Many of them think that a worm and a virus are the same. The main thing in common between the two, is that they both damage, and have the potential of eventually destroying, the computer. Worm infestation could lead to a system failure. When you're in doubt over any sort of malware, always contact a data recovery service.

What is a computer worm?

A computer worm is a malware which replicates itself without a computer program. Worms seldom affect single machines, they prefer to feed on networks. This doesn't mean your home PC is safe from them.

Why is a worm more dangerous than a virus?

There are several reasons why a computer worm is more problematic than a computer virus:

1. They do not need a host program to run-this means that once the worm has entered your network, it can propagate replication on its own. Not only would it affect the system it's on but also all the systems in the network.
2. The worm creates a path allowing the creator to access and alter information on the infected system. All your passwords, contacts, etc., are in the clutches of the author of the worm. A worm finding its way into an official network, can access all vital data of the company. They can even use your email id to send Spam and other kinds of troublesome information.
3. The author can alter the registry of the infected system(s) thus leading to system failure and arousing the need for data recovery.

Diagnosing a worm infection:

1. Slow computer
2. Slow Internet connection
3. Random re-starting of the system

Steps to take after a worm infection:

1. Use an updated anti-virus or anti-spyware to remove the worm.
2. Worms can be distributed via emails so ensure that all systems in a network have a firewall which protects it against a worm attack.

The most dangerous part of a worm attack is the fact that the registry of your system could be damaged intentionally. This would leave your data inaccessible. If you have a back-up, you can easily restore the information onto a new computer.

Evaluate options for computer repairs and computer service

Evaluate options for computer repairs and computer service

Author: Sunil Punjabi

As computer service is a universal requirement these days, users are offered various options to get their machines fixed. Some people manage to do small repairs themselves.

For those who cannot manage it, it is best to rely on the manufacturing company for computer repairs, especially till such time that the machine is covered by extended warranties. After that, they can use the help of a company that provides services at fixed or variable costs. Since computer service is a survival necessity in the present day world, computer users should have ready access to computer repair options. At the same time, they should also know some of the tips and tricks to get things done cheaply, and without hassles.

The first rule here is for the users to learn some of the basics of computer repairs so that they can manage minor repairs themselves. The operating system will have its own troubleshooting options, and by going through it step by step users will be able to rectify some of the problems themselves. Later versions of windows come with repair disks and when the user boots the computer with it, again, it will have provisions for guiding the users through means to get the problems fixed.

Anyway, repair disks will not solve the entire gamut of problems that make computer service necessary. Further, there are plenty of people whose technical know-how does not allow them to manage computer repairs even with the repair disk and other troubleshooting options that operating systems provide. They might have to get outside help to have the problem rectified.

While taking outside help for computer repairs, it is better not to rely on help from independent sources till such time that the machine is covered by the manufacturer's warranty. The warranty terms of different manufacturers will vary, but many machines are covered by extended warranties at additional costs even after the mandatory period of one-year warranty. During this period, computer service by the sellers will always work out cheaper than getting it from other sources. Further, spare parts availability for the brand will also be more with the manufacturing company than others.

In some cases, where on site computer repairs is required, and there could be delay in getting the services of the manufacturers, the user may have to rely on help from other sources. However, the cost equation here will have to be calculated by comparing the extra charges that could ensue from taking that help, and the loss resulting from the delay in getting the manufacturer's computer service.

In a post warranty period scenario, there are generally two ways in which computer service will be available. One is by entering into an annual maintenance contract with the service provider. Here, in return for the payment of a fixed amount every year, the service providers will take care of all the computer repairs needs of the user.

With the other option, the computer owner will have to pay for each repair separately and also pay for spare parts when necessary. It is a bit difficult to predict which of the two methods will work out to be cheaper in the long run. In the case of businesses where malfunctioning of a computer could result in substantial business loss, contracts that will cover all computer repairs could be the better option. For smaller units and home computers, computer service with variable charges may be the right option.
