Verbal indigestion is perhaps the more common occurrence in this technologically advanced day and age. The language changes and mutates, taking everyday words and massaging them into computer terms which make no or complete sense. Spyware, for instance, allows a quick discernment of what it refers to. Dongle, on the other hand, leaves one with thoughts best left kept to one's imagination.

To ascertain how the computer lingo has changed over time, applets do not refer to smaller sized fruits of the apple genus. Bits and bytes were easy comprehension as eight of the former made one of the latter. However, as the math progressed, a thousand plus two dozen units constituted the kilo quantity. This is in direct opposition to the metric system whereby a thousand units were sufficient to make a kilo's worth.

In order to avoid sounding and behaving like one totally out of sync with the latest, a simple search for computer terms helps one stay in touch. Despite sounding like a language on its own, it is best to take the bull by the horns, so to speak. If one is in the industry, it is all the more reason to learn up the jargon as one cannot survive on commonplace language. Instead of going through the encyclopedia of terminology and references, an ideal place to start is that on basic terms as well as those one deals with as part of his daily activities. Once one has a good grip on the basics, he can then progress to the intermediate and advanced levels in due time.

As if computer lingo fully spelt is not challenging enough, abbreviations join the foray to keep the everyday Joe's head spinning. As though not enough, acronyms also hog for the limelight. It is noteworthy that these terms apply in technical as well as non-technical settings. In addition to words, computer terms also envelop emotional icons, commonly referred to as emoticons, which is a form of abbreviation. The users' emotional well-being dot all over the screen as everyone seeks to inform the other of his state of happiness or otherwise.
