What are the common symptoms of a computer Virus

By: Tiffany

To understand the concept of a computer virus one has to know what is a computer virus. Is this a worm or an infection or what is it? Well computer virus is a program designed by human. Which can spread from one computer to the other using some connectivity device such as a pen drive, or the most common way a computer virus can spread is through the internet. It can corrupt or damage data on your computer or completely roger your hard Drive.

How it can come into a computer well it can most easily spread by email attachments or through Social Networking websites. Therefore it is very important that you don't even attempt to open an email which is unknown to you. One most common way how a computer virus can spread is by downloading pirated software or may be hidden with files you may download of your interest such as the downloading of a music file using P2P software.

Now the next question which comes to our mind is how we can recognize a computer virus? What are its symptoms?

Well there are few symptoms which may confirm that your computer might be infected such as

  • A Slow Computer than usual.
  • The computer stops responding, or computer freezes very frequently.
  • The computer crashes, or it restarts in a frequent interval.
  • The computer restarts automatically on a regular interval. Additionally, the computer misbehaves then usual.
  • With no reason in hand an antivirus program is disabled. Additionally, the antivirus program cannot be restarted
  • Problem is running different applications.
  • Print commands on your computer dose not work properly.
  • You might find a lot of different unusual error messages.
  • A security program is disabled automatically. Additionally, the security programs cannot be restarted.
  • A security program or an antivirus program cannot be installed on the computer, or the antivirus program will not run.
  • New icons appear on the desktop that you do not recognize, or the icons are not associated with any recently installed programs.
  • A program disappears from the computer even though you did not intentionally remove the program
  • There is a double extension on an attachment that you recently opened, such as a .jpg, .vbs, .gif, or .exe. Extension.
  • The dialog boxes and the menu items are distorted
  • A security program or an antivirus program cannot be installed on the computer, or the antivirus program will not run.

However these above symptoms may be few signs of a computer virus there could also be some kind of hardware or a software conflict which might cause similar issues and which has nothing to do with computer viruses. Unless you consult a technician such as a remote  tech support team and do a diagnosis and also install and run an industry standard, up to date antivirus software on your computer one cannot be certain whether a computer is infected by a computer virus or not.
