Computer Components & Memory Modules

Computer Components & Memory Modules

By: Mark Benson

Having talked and discussed in details about computers, its utility and its importance. It is time now to discuss a few things in regards to the basics of the computers. Besides the main processing unit that the computer consists of, it also includes a keyboard; a mouse; hard disk, RAM; DVD and monitor to make it a complete package so as to access the utilities of the computer without any problems. While buying a system for yourself, it can either be purchased all in one package as a ready to use computer or if you have appropriate knowledge about the hardware compliments of the computer then you can buy individual components that can be assembled as per your requirements.

Let is now discuss all the components of the computer separately:

Memory: Memory Components Modules are one of the most essential elements in a computer. Random Access Memory is like the heart and brain of the computer and it is very essential that it functions well, as without its effective operations the system is unable to handle the operations and the instructions that have been given to the PC by the users. RAM is the temporary storage devices of the system that takes instructions from the users and keeps the data with itself so that the PC does not have to go again and again to the CPU, which would cause delays in operations. The bigger the size of the RAM; the advanced performance and quicker the computer will work, because the PC can do most of the operations on it without copying data back and forth from the hard disk. Usually if the computer is running slow then a memory upgrade is usually advised by the users so as to initiate the system into performing to its optimum capacity.

Keyboards: Keyboard is one of the most essential components of the computer and it is one of the most significant input devices for the computers, being the most significant and reliable one as well. For a computer t0 run efficiently it is required to give appropriate instructions to the computer to work in accordance to the wishes of the users. Each time the users clicks the key on the keyboard it conveys a signal to the circuit beneath called Key Matrix Circuit to the PC.  The keyboard is connected to the computer with a cable to a PS/2 or USB connection.

Mouse: Mouse is another major component of the computer. It is the one device that registers the instructions of the users and thereby helps the system to comply to the instructions. There are many options available in this component like the ball mouse, optical mouse, and laser mouse. In a ball mouse there is a ball that is encased in the casing, and when the mouse is moving in the mouse pad; with the rotation of the ball a signal of operation is sent to the computer. On the other hand both optical and laser mouse use optical signals to send to the computers. In the former it uses light emitting diodes the latter uses infrared laser diode in order to track a motion

Therefore being knowledgeable about the computer components can help you to utilize the system properly and also realize the significance of each of the computer parts for smooth functioning.
