I never knew of any existing difference computer repair geeks but after talking to one of the IT Technicians at Rocket City Computers, I realized there were differences. It all started after my aunt went to the Geek Squad in Huntsville, AL, to have her computer repaired. My aunt's laptop kept crashing to the "blue screen of death" every time she turned on the wireless switch. At first, the Geek diagnosed it and said the problem has been fixed. Trusting it was repaired she took it home without verifying that it was working. She tried to use it the next day and same thing happened. The laptop, again, crashed to the "blue screen of death." She took it back to Geek Squad a total of 3 times in 9 months and they said it was her firewall.

Feeling ripped-off by the geeks at Geek Squad, she decided to search for another computer repair company. She found www.rocketcitycomputers.com on the first page of Google using the search term, "computer repair Huntsville, AL." My aunt read some good reviews on the computer repair services shop and called them. She explained her problem to Rocket City Computers' IT Technician and right away he said it sounded more like a hardware and software issue rather than a firewall problem. My aunt—believing in the Geek Squad diagnosis—tried to argue it out with the computer repair services technician that it was indeed a firewall issue. He remained polite and said if it is a firewall issue they would fix it, and, if it isn't, they would still fix it.

The PC repair technician came out—even before he diagnosed the laptop— and said if he turns the switch on and it crashes, then he will put his reputation as an certified IT Technician on the line that it isn't a firewall issue. He turns the wireless to the on position and the laptop crashes. He said it was a hardware and software conflict and that the driver is probably corrupted. He went online and downloaded the driver from the Dell web site. He installed the driver and with a big smile on his face, the computer repair specialist pointed to the wireless switch light. Lord behold, it was turned on and did not crash.

He got offended when I called him a "Geek" and said he is an A+ (plus) certified IT Technician. He said, "That means I truly understand and know what I'm doing when working on computers." He also said Rocket City Computers does not hire "geeks," they only hire true IT Technicians and that all Rocket City Computers IT Specialists have at least 1 to 2 years of real world experience repairing computers, not just their own computers. The moral of the story is, "anyone can be a Geek Squad computer repair Geek but not everyone can be an A+ Certified Rocket City Computers computer repairs IT Technician.
