Computer Freezes - How to Stop Them From Happening

Computer Freezes - How to Stop Them From Happening

Author: Jason Webber

Computer freezes cause a lot of money each year because of all the effort people have to put in to redo the unsaved work that was lost when the computer decided to stop working. The worst thing is that there is usually absolutely no warning whatsoever prior to the computer hanging up on us.

The first thing to try when the system freezes is to try to open the Windows Task Manager. By pressing the keys Control, Alternate and Delete together, the Task Manager may appear. If so, terminate all the applications that are running, but do it one at a time. The moment the computer recovers, save your work, shutdown the computer and start it up again.

In many cases though, the computer will not react at all to anything you press. There is only one choice here: force the computer to shut down. You can do this by pressing and then holding onto the power button on your computer until it switches off.

When the computer is off, power it up again and then proceed to start the computer in Safe Mode. Running Windows in Safe Mode allows you to make changes or do some repairs to the computer which you may not be able to do in a normal mode. After successfully getting into Safe Mode Windows, you have to try to repair the errors in the registry. You can do this by running a registry cleaner software. It's important to have such a software in your computer as part of your computer maintenance toolkit. A registry cleaner will scan through your entire Windows registry, which can grow to be huge. It will find errors in the registry and then fix them. Because the registry is crucial to Windows, being the central information storage repository, it is important to repair any problems in it. Errors in the registry can cause instability to the operating system and in many cases, Windows may not even start.

A good registry cleaner will help keep your Windows system in good shape and performing optimally. If you are unsure which registry cleaner to use, you can take a look at these reviews of registry cleaners. You can also read about how to fix error 2738.
