Do you want a computer that you can play solitaire on or play other games? Maybe you just want to be able to send and receive emails. You can typically get away with purchasing a cheap desktop computer. Don't expect to be able to do much more with your computer though. Sometimes you will even find that if you purchase a really cheap desktop computer, connecting to the Internet may even be difficult. It will really depend on what kind of modem and the level of the connectivity that the computer has.

If you don't even care about connecting to the Internet (once you do though you will never be able to live comfortably without it) you can find many cheap desktop computers. They will have either no modem or very low level modems. Low level modems means it will take forever for you to connect to the Internet. But if this is not important to you, that's okay.

Do you absolutely need to have a brand new computer? If that is not a requirement for you, you will be able to save a lot of money by going to local computer stores and asking for a refurbished computer. Refurbished computers are usually great. You may want to get a referral to the computer store that you buy a refurbished desktop from. You may also ask for warranties, etc... And find out if they will make repairs at a reasonable rate if needed.

Computers have become a commodity type item in recent years. There are so many of them around and they change so often. Many people get a new computer every year or every time something new comes out. This is an advantage to someone looking for a cheap desktop computer, or any other type of computer for that matter. Those one year old models still work well; they just may not be the fastest and most up-to-date.

You can find Desktop Computer Packages online as well. If you don't have a computer currently, you may be able to stay late at work and use a work computer to search online for cheap computers. If not, go to your local library. They usually have computers that can be used by the public. Search for your computer there. Online stores may offer cheap prices, but be aware that shipping costs may be expensive. Check out the prices and shipping costs together to see if you can find a good deal.
