In "My Computer"—"Properties"—"Advanced", click "Settings" in the "Startup and Recovery" and cross out "Write an event to the system log", "Send an administrative alert" and "Automatically restart" and set "none" in the "Write debugging information". It is wise for you to disable error reporting. As for "Error Reporting", in "My Computer"—"Properties"—"Advanced", click "Error reporting" to choose "Disable error reporting" and tick "But notify me when critical errors occur" and then click "OK". By forbidding these functions, it is also helpful for you to improve computer speed.

 

Close down "Automatic Updates" function. In the "My Computer"—"Properties"—"Automatic Updates", you can choose "Turn off Automatic Updates" so that you can update computer manually. And you can turn off "Remote Desktop". Right-click "My Computer" and click "Properties"—"Remote". In this tab, you can cross out "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer".

And then you can optimize visual effects. Right-click "My Computer" and choose "Properties"—"Advanced". In the "Performance" column, click "Settings"—"Visual Effects" and adjust it as best performance or just keep some necessary items.

 

Besides that, close down the function of "Automatically synchronize with an Internet time server". Click "Start"—"Control Panel"—"Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options"—"Date and Time". In the "Internet Time" tab, you can cancel "Automatically synchronize with an Internet time server". Or you are supposed to forbid using excessive serving components. Right-click "My Computer"—"Manage"—"Services and Applications", in the right windows, you can set the unnecessary service as disable or manual.

 

 

This is a very important step to speed up computer. Windows registry is just like a database which stores all the computer information. Every time you install a program, save a files or install a new driver on your computer, the registry keeps a record which called entry, these entries will be left in the registry even the related programs/files/drivers/ were removed thus make them obsolete even corrupted. That is the biggest reason for a slow running computer, if you keep ignoring these wasted entries, error messages might pop up from time to time and even crash your computer eventually.
