Slow Computer Fix Ideas

By: kwilmont

Today computer and internet skills are very important to our everyday lives. We need enough knowledge to do a simple slow computer fix to our own computer. We face almost daily many repair type issues that can be measured not only with what it cost us in money but also in our stress level. It takes so long to do things on a computer that is not cooperating!

Unneeded Programs: From the start when your PC was brand new, there were programs pre-loaded by the computer company that you do not want or need. They all do it. In fact my best computer have been the ones I have had built by local people or shops by assembling components to my specs. That way I didn't get the "garbage". The pre-built brand name computers have all sorts of stuff I do not want. Some of these installed programs are always running in the back ground. And this can especially slow down computer start up time.

But what can you do now about this now? Probably the best solution to these "extra" programs is to let a professional clean them out of your computer for you. It can be hazardous to do too much program deleting for the average computer user.

Memory Storage: This involves two types of computer memory that can make your computer slow down. The fix is either installing more memory or eliminating some of the data you are storing. The longer you work your computer the more data is stored away. Windows XP stores data in as many as five separate locations. It seems that our computers now have a tremendous about of capacity compared to say ten years ago, but the computer requires so much more as well.

Data is stored in different drives and by numerous different applications of your computer. As with any storage facility it is important for this to be organized. Even with plenty of space or room for storage, if it is not organized or optimized it will not be efficient and slow down your computer.

Hard disk and random access memory: The two types of memory are your computer's hard disk and its RAM or random access memory. Simply put the hard disk is where data is stored permanently, or long term, and the RAM is short term memory. A friend of mine had a computer that was bought as a "bargain" and did not have enough RAM. It had plenty of hard disk capacity but was slow because the amount of RAM the company included was way too small. It took almost all the RAM to run the operating system and left none for other applications to run. This problem was solved by buying more RAM memory and physically installing it in the computer.

Access to your computer: Limiting outside access to your computer is a big part of preventing slow computer problems from happening in the future. If you use your computer for work or it is connected to a network system you should be even more careful. Someone on in the network or someone that has access to the network could be able to reach and see your personal information and you would not know about it.

Computer registry: Cleaning, or optimizing, the registry can help remove unnecessary information and that can be a slow computer fix also. The more you do with your computer the more the registry becomes cluttered. Have you done much adding or removing programs? The problem is when we try to remove or uninstall something from our computers we are not really removing it. It just doesn't remove it all and some parts of it remain. Clearing the computer's trash bin does not get rid of it either.
