Computer Speed Problems - How to Increase Your Computer Speed in Two Steps

By: jery smis

Is your computer running slow? Are you tired of waiting forever for your computer applications to start? Is your internet taking forever to load? If so read on to find out how to speed up your computer.

The three main reasons why computers start to run slow are: you have some type of spyware, adware, or virus; your computer is outdated; or there are errors in your registry.

One big reason peoples computers run slow is because of spyware, adware, or viruses. Signs that you have one of these are your browser homepage being changed, popup ads appearing out of nowhere, missing files, and so on. Another big sign that your computer is infected is if you have a program that looks like an antivirus program and keeps telling you that your computer is infected, and then directs you to order the full version in order to disinfect it. If you think this is the reason your computer is running slow then I would recommend getting a reputable virus scanner and anti-adware/spy ware program. You can get these free online, a good antivirus program is Avira or Avast, and a good antispyware program is Spybot Search & Destroy or Ad-Aware. Update these programs, then completely disconnect your internet and do a full system scan with both programs. If your infection is really bad I would highly recommend reinstalling your operating system.

Another reason peoples computers tend to run slow is because they have a very old computer with outdated RAM (Random Access Memory) and CPU. The problem with having an old computer is that most software programs today are very large and take up a significant amount of resources. If you don't have at least 1 GB of RAM and a 1 Ghz CPU, and you are trying to run newer programs, then you probably need to upgrade your computer. To find out how much resources your computer is using press CTRL-ALT-DELETE to show the Task Manager. In the task manager click on the Performance tab and you will see how much CPU and Memory you are using.

The last and most common reason peoples computers run slow is because of registry errors. Every windows operating system has what's called a registry. This registry stores all of your computers' configurations and settings, and is made up of what are called Keys and Values. Every time you install new software or a new update you are inadvertently making changes to the registry of your computer. And whenever you uninstall a program some changes that were made when the program was installed are left in the registry. All these changes to the registry eventually end up causing registry errors. And these registry errors drastically slow down your computer. This is probably the number one reason why computers start to slow down. Unless you really know how to maintain your computer it is inevitable that registry errors will cause your computer to slow down. This of course only applies to Windows users, Mac users don't have this problem. The only way to fix this problem is to download a program called a registry fixer. These programs go through your registry and look for any errors and then fix them by either deleting unnecessary keys or resetting values.

Those are three the main ways to fix a slow running computer. There are other reasons why a computer would run slowly but they are too technical or specialized for this article to go into.
