How do I safely operate and secure my computer?
Safely operate your computer on a daily basis without fear of being compromised by a hacker should be easy when at set-up the proper security measures are taken. The actual operation of your PC depends on what you know about the different programs that you plan on using. Most programs come with tutorials that teach you how to operate and maintain the program with security. Microsoft developed many programs and they put safety in them to prevent hackers from getting the information that you have input. The Active X software helps for those who like to play games online to keep the PC safe. Microsoft windows offers service packs, critical updates and patches that you need. Still before you do install any update make sure that you have your PC set to the NOTIFY me when new updates are released. When you are operating your computer, make sure that you use your common sense in opening doors to unknown places.
Never go into an unknown neighborhood looking for the best deal on line. Make sure that the address has an (s) at the end of the http(s) because the (s) means a secure site. When you are setting up your email, choose one that is not so commonly used because programs like Outlook/Outlook Express have suffered much abuse. Unfortunately, hackers are well into cracking the codes for people who use those programs. The PC user should make sure that when they set up their system that all precautions are in place such as blockers, anti-virus software, and personal firewall and update packages . This will help you to operate your system in comfort knowing that you are as safe as possible. Many people get anxious to start working on their new PC and surfing the web which is understandable but do it safely. When you put in all the safety features then later you will save cost for yourself and for others.
The operation of your PC system is vital to your business or e-commerce site then you should consider making everything password protected. The password should maintain over eight characters consisting of lower and upper case characters with numerical digits. The password should be changed each quarter at the very least. Do not use the same password for every website you visit. The websites that offer what I refer to as social activities as hobby tips, recipes, game play etc. use a common simple password. You probably never need to purchase it is just used for your enjoyment. Then there are other websites that you use to arrange travel, rental cars, motels etc. these sites need more protection because you are releasing vital financial and personal information. Then you should change your password often and make sure that you use a difficult password. Then the high secure websites that cover your bank accounts, investments, credit cards and personal information for your clients should have a very secure password changed monthly along with an anti-virus software program that you can update.
