Is Your Computer Slow? Seven Tips to Fix Your Computer's Speed
Many ask the question, "why my computer is so slow"?, it seems that the longer you use a computer, the slower it will go. The age of your computer is not the problem for a slow down, but the years of surfing the web, downloading different files, saving pictures and music. Before purchasing a brand new PC, try the following tips to speed up your slow computer and performance of the one you already have.
1. Run Disk Defragmenter: Disk fragmentation will close up and hinder your computer's performance. When files are broken, the computer must find the hard disk to locate all of the pieces before the file can be opened. A fragmented disk will slow your computer down , especially when you run large programs or files. If you organize your files, your computer will work faster and perform better. Use your computer's disk defragmenter at least every thirty days.
2. Repair Disk Errors: If your computer has ever crashed or shut down improperly due to a power outage, your computer may have disk errors. Windows provides an error checking utility to search the hard disk for bad sectors to repair, giving your computer extra performance as a result.
3. Remove Fonts: Many computers now feature a long list of fonts to use in word processor applications. These fonts, especially the True Type fonts, use quite a bit of your computer's system resources. To give your computer that extra boost, remove all the fonts, but those you normally use.
4. Scan for Viruses, Spyware and Adware: Most viruses can wreak havoc on your PC. There are also some other programs like spyware and adware which stay dormant in the background. Spyware and Adware can be dangerous and harmful because they collect all your personal information and show random pop up messages. So no matter what you have, whether it is a virus, spyware or adware or even all three of them, you can use some programs such as Ad-Aware and protect your personal and private information from a third party. When your computer is virus, spyware and adware free, you will see a big improvement on your computer's speed.
5. Limit Programs at Start Up: Some have set their computers to start some programs automatically, when the computer is turned on. This can slow down your computer and it is important to limit these so that they do not eat away at the speed and performance of your computer. The less that is running on your computer, the more space can be saved to run the programs you really want.
6. Clear Browser Cache: The Temporary file folders also knows as the browser cache, stores images, sounds, video, and web pages visited when surfing the web. Though this folder is designed to speed up page load times, most of the websites stored in it will never be visited or used again. You can free up some space on your computer by clearing the cache periodically
7. Delete Cookies: Most of these websites that you visit will give you a cookie and a lot of times you will never use them. So your computer will start building up thousands of cookies after some time and it will take up space on your hard drive and this will cause a slow down on your computer. To stop this from happening, you need to delete those cookies every month and keep your PC at the best performance.
Before purchasing a new computer, try to find a way to make your current PC work for you. Go over these 7 tips and start using them. You will cut down the time that you spend for your screen to load. By tweaking your computer to make it work for you, it will run at its best performance once again.
