A common problem at work, as it is at home is computer infections. Nasty programs that sneak on your computer steal information, track your logins at websites such as your bank. Or just make your computer so slow it’s painful to use. Recently infections have become much nastier. It takes so long to clean an infection, even with good removal software. You may need to use several programmes to clean the current crop of Adware/Spyware/Viruses/Trojans/Bots. Most computers come with some form of Antivirus virus software from a reputable vendor, but few people seem to realize the packet definitions that only last so long and after a free trial period there is a subscription price for the uploads. Antivirus software is rather ineffective unless you are getting definition updates almost daily. So many new threats rise up frequently. You must keep the program up to date.

A good firewall is important. It’s more about understanding it is there to protect your computer, so when it pops up warning such and such program wants access to the web or your computer, don’t just say yes. Say no if you are unsure. You can take further steps and get Adware software, to run constantly on your computer and detect Adware trying to get on your computer. Do it before your internet browser is overrun with ads and popups that you unable to even open! These are all good things and better yet when they are run together. If you don’t mind paying a price, you can purchase Security Suites. That is, software that have multiple programs all in one. Firewall/Antivirus/Spyware software. This can catch and stop viruses, worms, Spyware, bots, and more. For some people this is a better choice all around, just one program to deal with. Whatever you decide, keep the programs updated. Don’t be in a panic if something is found, slow down and read the advice the program presented you with. Always discuss the responsibly of keeping themselves and the computer safe to youngsters, involve them in the upkeep. You don’t have to be a geek. You just have to be aware and do a little prevention.
