Choosing And Accessorizing Your Computer Desk

So you need a new computer desk, you find yourself spending more and more time at your computer. Depending on the available space you have to set up your home computer work space, you may want to consider a corner computer desk. These are becoming more and more popular, which results in more and more styles to choose from.

You will also have many styles to choose from in either 'L' shaped, 'U' shaped or traditional computer desks. Whichever computer desk you choose, you need to consider the accessories it comes with, and which ones you would like to add to it in order to make your home computer office more efficient. Shelves, drawers and file cabinets are common accessories for home computer offices. They serve relevant and functional purposes, and you may want to consider this when considering price.

Filing cabinets while they are not a must, really will assist in keeping your work area clutter free. They don't have to be huge in order to keep your papers from accumulating in a pile on your desk. Another accessory that is both functional and cost efficient are paper trays. The stackable variety really add flexibility to your storage options, while not consuming too much of your work space.

Drawers provide another choice for storage of items that you need to have accessible, but would prefer not to have lying on your work space. Another option that works well for keeping your work area clear are shelves. Your computer desk may come with shelves, and if not there are many choices of shelves that will work well with your computer space. Shelves provide functionality by allowing you space to keep things such as pictures, calendars, knick knacks, and other things that you want to have visible but not on your computer desk.

Another option for keeping your computer desk clutter free and efficient is to consider incorporating the use of wireless components. Some of the options that are available for wireless components are mouse, keyboard and speakers. This eliminates unsightly wires running across your desk.

If you have children, especially younger children in your home, another thing you need to pay particular attention to is childproofing your computer work station. This should preferably be done while still in the decision making process of buying your computer desk and accessories. Rounded edges on desks and other furniture are a good starting point. However, you should also consider things like locking drawers and cabinets instead of open shelves.

This is extremely useful, especially when implementing the old saying 'out of sight, out of mind'. Even when told that the computer desk or workspace is 'off limits', these young precious minds are always curious, and nine times out of ten the curiosity will win out. Thus the reason for locking drawers, protect your children from themselves, and keep documents safe at the same time.

Another way of making your computer work station less enticing to those young inquisitive minds, is to purchase a computer chair that is solid, not easily tipped, and above all does not spin. Spinning chairs are like a magnet to children, and they really don't mean to make a big mess by slamming the chair into the desk, but it just spins so fast.
